How about we not do this. www.axios.com/local/portla...

"A hit dog will holler. And maybe that dog will win a reprieve from the Supreme Court, too. But even so, it still matters when old bulls of the judiciary, particularly conservatives like Judge Young, call out the Trump regime for turning civil rights laws on their head." — @lizdye.bsky.social

Justice Sotomayor's dissent in Skrmetti (which she's now reading from the bench) is deeply pained, accusing her colleagues of abandoning "transgender children and their families to political whims" and badly damaging "bedrock" principles of equal protection. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

The problem with ACB’s concurrence is in its framing. It isn’t women that get heightened scrutiny in a sex-discrimination case—men get the same level of scrutiny in a sex-discrimination case—because it’s not the group but the type of discrimination (sex-based) that gets heightened scrutiny. 1/4

Just asked SDNY if they were opening an election interference investigation against the people who arrested @bradlander.bsky.social yesterday, given Emil Bove's representation that such a thing would be election interference. Nicholas Biase declined to comment.

Narrator: Trump's using the FCC to extort a "settlement" payoff from the owner of CBS in return for approval to sell the company to an entity controlled by the family of a Trump supporting billionaire. That is TrumpLaw in a nutshell, as discussed here.

This is actually the second decision from the Roberts court endorsing plessy-like reasoning. The first was Dobbs. bsky.app/profile/jame...

Lurking under the surface of the 6–3 majority is a split over how to evaluate laws that indisputably discriminate against transgender people. Barrett, Thomas, and Alito say that anti-trans discrimination is not subject to heightened scrutiny. Roberts, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch don't say either way.

Just to let Gen Z know this is exactly how things played out with invading Iraq.

Deploying military troops domestically is, in no way, part of "national security policy."

This is essentially the “same sex marriage bans affect both straight and gay people” equally argument, but even more nefarious that cis people still get access to hormone therapy and chest surgery

1. Amazon, Verizon, and other major corporations have ended or reduced their support for Juneteenth celebrations this year, forcing events in major cities to be significantly scaled back, a Popular Information investigation reveals.

Breaking: The Trevor Project received a stop-work order last night on its contract with the national 988 suicide prevention hotline. The Trump administration is eliminating the option for LGBTQ callers to the hotline to press 3 and connect with someone who specializes in LGBTQ mental health.

🚨THIS STORY IS INSANE. The Trump administration shipped a guy to be imprisoned in El Salvador without trial, in conditions worse than we treat even convicted serial killers, because he was in a picture standing next to someone with tattoos. LITERALLY NO OTHER EVIDENCE.

SCOTUS decision upholding the ban of gender affirming care for trans kids (but allowing cis minors to get the exact same treatment) is one of the most poorly reasoned decisions I've ever read. Roberts unbelievably says that trans youth lacks the "maturity" to get this care and may regret it - while

In a lengthy exchange, with ICE Deputy Field Director Bill Joyce, Reps Nadler and Goldman are denied the ability to visit the 10th floor. Joyce says it's not a detention facility it's just a place ppl are housed for several days w/out beds.

Let's be clear: this is a red state healthcare executive telling people that rural red states will be gutted. “The further the cuts that are made, the more devastating it is,” said Shantel Krebs, president and CEO of Avera St. Mary’s, a hospital in South Dakota. www.politico.com/news/2025/06...

A Pennsylvania man who was arrested on weapons charges at a “No Kings" protest on Saturday is facing more than two dozen additional charges after investigators said they found a cache of homemade bombs at his home outside Philadelphia.

Helicopters. Armed troops wearing masks. All for a freaking military-grade raid at a flea market that appears to have resulted in two measly arrests. DHS and ICE are out of control. ktla.com/news/local-n...

It’s so cool this administration is going to sell the most pristine parts of the Rockies, Sierra Nevada, Cascades, and Sawtooths to private owners so they can log, hunt, mine, and build survivalist compounds on our shared national heritage.

Grateful that Brad Lander is using his experience to highlight the biggest outrage; that ICE is re-arresting people who have been 100% compliant with ICE and the courts, with the goal of unlawfully stripping them of a court hearing to juice Stephen Miller's deportation numbers.

“If defending my country’s interests and rejecting foreign military presence carries with it the consequence of having my visa revoked,” Mr. Torrijos said, “I accept this with pride.” An example of Ideological Exclusion ⬇️ See also Chap. 7 of "Threat of Dissent" www.nytimes.com/2025/06/17/w...

Every single Senator who voted for this, including plenty of Democrats, just helped make Trump’s crypto grift more profitable

Armed man arrested at Nashville's 'No Kings' protest had long fascination with Nazis, mass murder www.newschannel5.com/news/newscha...

I shit you not, people

There’s always a tweet.

SCOOP: DHS Sec. Kristi Noem directed the Federal Emergency Management Agency to prepare a memo on how to abolish itself and create a re-branded, radically smaller disaster response organization, according to a copy of the document reviewed by Bloomberg News. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

An Afghan man who worked as a translator for the U.S. military during the war was detained by ICE after showing up for a hearing inside of a federal courthouse in San Diego, his attorney says. He fears that if he returns to Afghanistan, he would be tortured or even killed, @nbcsandiego.com reports.

BREAKING: Jury finds MyPillow founder Mike Lindell defamed former employee for a leading voting equipment company.

BREAKING: A federal judge reversed National Institutes of Health's terminations of hundreds of critical research grants that were canceled because of their alleged connection to disfavored topics, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and gender identity. This is a major win for public health.

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered. Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again. Their inaction is deadly.

i know we're numb but it seems not great that an executive branch official is on a Russian asset's show spreading conspiracy theories about American elections being rigged

“'States’ rights,'” along with any other principle Republicans claim to value under a Democratic president, is just a convenient cudgel. Quite simply, they don’t think Democrats and the governments they run have any rights they are bound to respect." — @playtyperguy.com

It’s interesting to think back to the ACA which was unpopular at the time (though not this bad) but Dems argued (correctly it turns out) eventually the public would come to like it. What possible argument do the R’s have here other than “shut up”?

🚨Stephen Miller gets his way. Just a few days after Ag. Sec. Rollins convinced Trump to briefly back down, quotas and indiscriminate raids are back. Farms, restaurants, and hotels are now subject to ICE raids again, with intense pressure on ICE to hit 3,000 arrests a day. Miller remains in charge.

Trump team is doing literal information warfare around intensified political violence and Democrats are still confirming nominees and cooperating on bipartisan legislation

On a Proud Boys-affiliated podcast late last month, Oath Keeper & J6 participant Jessica Watkins said that fellow J6 participant Jake Lang while they were in prison wanted her to sign a document saying "we're all seditionists & we need to declare war on the United States government" via a militia.

The Senate bill explicitly directs HHS to publish an interim final rule (meaning they don't have to wait for public input) for implementing Medicaid work requirements.

Republicans know that their policies are wildly unpopular. We know they know this because they’re deferring most of the pain from the Medicaid cuts to be post-midterms. This will place more burden on Democrats to be effective messengers going into election season… which they could excel at more.

Nearly half of 140 senior SSA administrators have been forced out or left the agency. A decimation of hundreds of years of administrative expertise at the insitence of the ignorant. (Gift article) www.nytimes.com/2025/06/16/u...

Holy crap. The VA has removed language from its guidelines that forbid VA doctors to provide treatment base on, among other things, party identification. (VA as a whole has to provide, but individuals don’t. Now imagine a rural VA hospital…) Again, how is this different than a civil war?

What I learned today is that the @nytopinion.nytimes.com doesn’t believe in young people of color in leadership. Time and time again people tout “seniority” and “experience”. 75 years ago, there were no women of color elected in NY. Where is “seniority” or “experience” to come from for us?
