I liked Samu last season when we were linked, was fuming when they switched him for Félix in the swap. I like Samu even more now that he's got some experience at a team that dominates the ball. I'd be happy if we signed him.

Yeah he underperformed xG, but that's more noise than signal. It doesn't mean he's a bad finisher. I'm more so encouraged by how excellent he is at crafting his own chances and linking up. And I agree that a class box striker would be ideal. I'm just saying you don't *need* one to be successful.

Also, I'm not concerned at all about "underperforming xG" - that's just about the most high-variance stat in football. Darwin overperformed his xG by 9.6 at Benfica. Werner by 6.8 at Leipzig. Isak underperformed by 3.8 his last season at Sociedad. It means close to nothing to me.

I lean Osimhen simply because I don't trust Maresca to implement a system that can consistently break down teams even with the talent at his disposal, and so I'd rather we hedge our bets so to speak. But I've always maintained that if we could sign two Jacksons I'd do it in a heartbeat.

There's a trade-off. Same profile: players get more reps of the same attacking style and achieve its ceiling faster, at the expense of flexibility. Different profiles: team has the ability to attack in different ways depending on game state, at the expense of familiarity.

Which is why I still prefer Osimhen. But I disagree that it doesn't make sense. It just sets us on a different path: instead of gaining tactical flexibility, we'd be doubling down on a specific style of play and hoping to reach a higher ceiling with it than you could otherwise.

Went up against fucking Eddie Nketiah, who scored 67% of his league goals today. That knocked me off first place. Fuming.

True, but meant what the league path dictates for us. After all if we can’t beat Forest, are we any more likely to beat Betis? 🙃

This the year for the Leafs you think?

Genuinely. Caicedo is fantastic and all, but we’re talking about a guy with authentic GOAT defensive midfielder shouts. Guy who won literally everything. And we were lucky enough to have him at his peak. Can’t gloss over his legacy like that.

Madrid just the most obvious example but this also applies to Barcelona (Raphinha), Bayern (Olise), PSG (Doue, Barcola) etc. Football needs these super clubs to continue their dominance if it wants to maintain the facade of equality across the top leagues.

Short answer: yes!

He’s clearly a ragebaiter. I don’t really take most of what he says seriously. I follow him mostly for comedic value.

Actually I’m Puerto Rican, I get a pass. Being loud and passionate about mostly insignificant things is my culture. Y’all find your own excuse but I’m at peace with mine 😌

Yeah I think Gusto comes in at RB and we play either Palmer or Neto at false 9. I’d bring in Reece but Maresca has made it clear he sees Reece as a midfielder.

Protect your mental health. Accept that they won’t right now. Look at our league record against United over the last 5 years and clock that these dudes can’t live up to such a big fixture. Anything else is a bonus. But for your own sake, do NOT count on us beating United 😭😭

Newcastle are a great team when everyone’s fit, under different circumstances I would have accepted this loss as simply a tough fixture. But we are definitely better than Villa. They just have a more pragmatic manager, and a squad who performs when it counts. Those margins can make the difference.
