There were many people, in 2016, who wanted to get Trump in the White House in order to get Kushner in there and access classified documents. This includes the Saudis but especially Netanyahu. Israel already had an ENORMOUS blackmail trove but whatever gaps they had were likely filled by Kushner.

Also note that polluting companies have been given ~50 years to "manage the transition to a greener econony", while the 10s of millions of workers (and current students) whose (future) career is under threat have to fend for themselves in a very short span with 0 visibility, no government support
