So we hear Angela Rayner has been giving Rachel Reeves ideas on how to change the tax system... Here's one: how about a wealth tax on the super rich? The UK's 50 richest families hold more wealth than 50% of the population. No more cruel cuts. It's time to tax wealth fairly.

"The Government [must recognise] the actions of Israel in Gaza as genocidal acts. We must suspend all arms exports to Israel, and ground the surveillance flights being carried out by the RAF over Gaza" @carladenyer.bsky.social‬ writes in the @metro.co.uk‬ 📷: Mohammed Ibrahim

The Sunday Times' Rich List is another wake-up call: 50 of the UK's richest families hold more wealth than half the UK population. While millions can’t afford food or heating, a tiny minority of the super-rich thrive. We need a fairer tax system to tackle extreme wealth and build a fairer society.

It's great news that this profoundly selfish landowner has been beaten in court, and many congrats to the National Park and those supporting it. But wild camping is a fundamental right that we should be able to exercise in many parts of England, not just Dartmoor. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

@greenjennyjones.bsky.social @nataliegreenpeer.bsky.social @teamlabouruk.bsky.social By the way - this is the Tories horror story so why is SOfS Steve Reed and PM Keir Starmer trying to protect their hideous legacy?? #askingforafriend

Fascinating. I always thought mature woodland was resistant to fire, but wasn't 100% sure. Confirmed. It could spur interesting debate re natural, hands-off rewilding vs accelerated ecological succession by planting oak, etc. Any rewilding is better than nothing! CC @irishrainforest.bsky.social

Why ridiculous? Tell me why UKGE invited fishermen to supply elvers and wait for payment until they were sold? They didn't get a permit and the EA made them put them back, as you know, and posing as the saviours of the Severn is so much hogwash.

You didn't mention that those eels were caught in the hope of getting a permit to export them to Belarus, but the EA forced Peter Wood to put them back. So much for the Severn Saviours baloney

'there is a special place in hell for politicians who object to solar farms & other renewable projects. But perhaps the hottest part is reserved for those who seek to slow pylons and other forms of electricity transmission, they keep us on course for a burning world. bright-green.org/2023/11/07/g...

After due consideration, having weighed up the relevant evidence, assessed the balance of arguments and gamed the likely implications, I have reached the conclusion that Keir Starmer can fuck off from a great height.

15 years on, 230,000 badgers dead, and no meaningful reduction in bTB in cattle. Lets end the cull now, not years down the line. Sign the petition govpetition.uk/700317

The world is NOT richer - the rich people are richer but the planet, and the poor, are poorer. Capitalism steals from the poor and from our future.----

Absolutely NOT the role of the librarian to critique your book choices - not, at least, in a democracy...

A fair few replies to this along the lines of "Sycamore may be an invasive species, but that tree was still iconic." Would they say the same about an old rhodo, for eg? We should hope not. But my main point was how people are more incensed by obvious damage to one tree than mass, outright ecocide.

I would support a left coalition while heartedly..it's the only way forward for a decent society socialistworker.co.uk/news/corbyn-...

Plain nuts.

The classroom eels are released after a period in schools. They are not eaten. IGOR will say anything that he thinks effective; whether it is true or not does not seem to bother him.

For your campaign to have any chance of success, people need to know who you are, if you campaign for your own small interests or for the genuine public good, and what you are actually campaigning for. None of this is clear, so we must assume this venom is the last twitching dying of UK Glass Eels

Might be interesting to know who you are.

I don't want to block you but if you keep up this ridiculous attack I may have to.

If you have an issue with SEG why don't you address it with them? I am nothing to do with SEG.

Salmon is not that great - salmon farming is hugely damaging to the environment and particularly to wild salmon.

The magic of a tropical rainforest. That a football pitch of this richest, most ancient of habitats is being turned into cattle pasture, palm oil plantation, or some other artificial deadzone every second of every day is utterly inconceivable. Yet it is the reality. We MUST change how we eat. 🌎

The privatised water companies in England have faced criticism for huge bonuses, underinvestment and environmental issues. Scottish Water reinvests all its revenue - approximately £800 million annually - into infrastructure and services ensuring that profits are used to benefit the public.

Elver Dave: I campaigned against selling elvers to Russia. That's all.Whatever beef you have with SEG has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH ME.

Where are you going with this?

If you care about the future of the eels as much as you say you do you can be part of future restocking plans for the Severn. Your suggestions are as welcome as anyone else's.

Though we really need ACTUAL zero, or close - 'net' zero is a fudge allowing worthless carbon-credit deals to substitute for real effective action.

Nothing is achieved Dave by being rude. The offensive tweets you and your chums posted on Twitter probably helped my campaign to stop the export of elvers to Russia. Your support did Peter Wood of UK Glass Eels no end of harm. Time to wise up Dave and stop being so rude to people.

Time for you to move on, Dave.If elvers die this is partly natural, partly because the eel passes need improving, and because the river is polluted by farming and privatised water companies. You need to channel your energies in those directions if you want change. Get behind all restocking plans

Net zero is NOT ENOUGH. The calculation depends on fraudulent offsetting and only zero is really good enough.

Blair says net zero is "doomed to fail" – but to abandon a rapid green transition away from fossil fuels is to sentence millions to certain death . And he knows it . 12 days left to sign my petition to ban fossil fuel ads – please sign govpetition.uk/700024

Stupid? Or greedy?

Major polluter Moy Park is killing Lough Neagh. I've signed this petition calling on Belfast City Marathon to drop Moy Park as a sponsors today - will you sign too? my.actnowni.org/petitions/dr...

What a snake

The People's Water Commission interim report is out today. Public ownership... 🥇 delivers the best results in the world 💰 keeps bills low 💡 has the highest water quality 🔮 better protects water for the future. So why is the government ignoring it? weownit.org.uk/act-now/stev...

Defra tends to support business rather than the environment when there is a choice. Hence, perhaps, wanting tax-payers' money for woodland creation via planting to go to tree growers when the same money would support much greater woodland creation if by natural regeneration.

This is a major drag on woodland creation. Vast areas could be opened up for woodland creation if we trusted in natural processes and didn't arrange to send taxpayers money straight back to business (eg tree nurseries). The area could be huge and the cost actually negligible, maybe a bit of fencing.

Dartmoor! What a wasteland!!

Today I joined Right to Roam and 400 people today in a mass swim trespass at Kinder Reservoir in the Peak District. The event was in commemoration of the anniversary of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass, but with a very modern & pressing issue of access.

When are you going to remember all the Palestinian women and children and doctors and teachers you have murdered? Why would anyone want to be on the side of genocide?

How many brave people arrested?

At this juncture I’d like to point out: * we’re on the brink of a golden age of medical healing * there’s enough money in the world to solve every problem in the world * a united approach could stop the climate crisis But a small group of sociopaths seeking personal power are going to throw it away.

There are often violets and bluebells and so on underneath the bracken - the trick I think is to shade the bracken with a scattering of trees to allow these plants to thrive.

📣 Kneecap statement repost from X:

As long as 'landowners' think it is fun to shoot birds and animals and are allowed to do so there is little hope for the environment. One day it will seem as strange and intolerable as smoke-filled bars and restaurants.

Not just 'can'. We absolutely MUST.
