Thanks to @iquilezles.bsky.social 's blog (iquilezles.org/blog/) for the UV tricks that make this effect possible. They're the real hero, I just made it convenient to use in Unreal :P

The textures themselves are from Makkon's Quake textures.

I put in some UV interpolation that allows it to resist Moire patterns that usually form with point filtering or quantization like this.

Looks like Nanite Replace, GIReplace, Reflection Pass Replace and Virtual Texture Replace all seem to be there too

There are nodes to do replacements for specific passes; I'm aware of at least Shadow Pass Switch and Lightmass Replace. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but changing parts of the material based on pass might get you started

I am seeing a lot of comments that say this is ordinary mipmapping - NO, this is NOT ORDINARY MIPMAPPING. What nathalie is doing here is in the shader, blending between different texel densities - could you do this with custom mips? Also no, not really. This is cool

I love point filtered textures, wish they stuck around longer. They look great on newer polycounts

During the test, GunBonsai worked as-is. So I have hope for drlax and corruption cards working better now

These days there's not many huge reasons not to just do Json if it's a pc only singleplayer game. Binary formats become a little more desirable on consoles where you have more limited space for saves and couldn't load as fast.. but now with gen 9 drives even that may not really be a problem
