Some fantastic news from Norfolk today - www.norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk/news/first-o...

Lots of St Mark’s flies on the wing today. They’re a day early!

Another Brexit bonus that was never painted on the side of a bus - NHS cancer patients denied life-saving drugs due to Brexit costs, report finds

A video of a badger having a good old scratch!

Dear @greenparty.org.uk. What on earth do your MPs think they’re doing by voting in favour of the Planning & Infrastructure Bill? It is a developers charter for ecological destruction. At the same time you’re running a nature in crisis campaign. You’re giving out seriously mixed messages here.

Please condsider signing this. Thanks.

Lovely walk around Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s Royston Common reserve this morning. Incredible to think that 20 years ago this view didn’t exist due to the dense conifer plantation that had been planted on the heathland.

Nice of the lesser white-fronted geese at Stiffkey to hang around for today’s WeBS count. @btobirds.bsky.social #WeBS

This is the sort of ill-informed and sloppy reporting that drives me (and probably other ecologists) mad. Three common pipistrelles were recorded roosting in the building. Low level of use, easy mitigation outlined in the EIA. Will it sink the pool plan? No. Does it give bats a bad rap? Yes.

Fantastic views of barn owl and short-eared owl whilst out doing bird surveys today. Pretty cool rainbow as well!

Well, I found it amusing

Quite a satisfying morning’s work reducing a client’s beech hedge to a more manageable height.

A bizarre find yesterday. Presumed muntjac remains with a flexible blue plastic stake through the skull and down the spine.

Blimey the squalid old RSPB volunteers cottage at Titchwell is now on the market for over £0.5m! Mind you looks in slightly better condition now. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/1...

And these people spaffed how many millions of ££ on the Norwich Western Link road? www.fakenhamtimes.co.uk/news/2488827...

Length of exposed chain on Salthouse beach yesterday. Local legend has it that it leads to a massive plug which, if removed, drains the entire North Sea.

I believe #NatureFriendlyFarming is key to a #wilderfuture Sign the petition!

The USAF spent most of this afternoon buzzing my house with ospreys!

Some videos from #2 son’s first snorkelling experience off Aride Island in the Seychelles. A budding Jacques Cousteau! www.instagram.com/p/DDtoFm9I_1...

A nice glossy ibis on this morning’s WeBS count

A lovely Norfolk sunrise on the way to work this morning.

It’s the start of the turtle nesting season on Aride Island, Seychelles. This is one of two females emerging last Friday to lay their eggs. Seychelles is one of the few places in the world where hawksbills emerge during the day. www.arideisland.com

I would like you, please, to sign this petition to ban driven grouse shooting. The first under a Labour government. 10k signatures gets a government response, 100k a debate in Westminster parliament. UK residents & UK citizens living abroad can sign. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

Is there any evidence that farmers paying inheritance tax will have a negative impact on the amount of food grown? My assumption is that land will still be farmed, albeit potentially by somebody else if the original owner has sell up to pay inheritance tax.

Nice to see some balance on the agricultural property relief issue.

Bumping this again for the benefit of new birders here. Steve’s blog is an excellent introduction to feeds. Our starter pack (by no means exhaustive) includes some active accounts and busy feeds.

In the process of moving from Twitter/X across to Bluesky. In the meantime, here is a picture of a sandy dog
