The democrats were always too morally deficient to dismantle it and too cowardly to use it themselves, so by default it would always be the republicans who would use it as intended

100%. And I'd guess him signing on probably helped get the deal over the line too

Blow up one family with missiles to kill one terrorist and you end up with 100 terrorists, not zero. But for the record I did not misunderstand you, you simply wrote so poorly that your intention was unrecoverable

I was wondering what might prevent the development of this kind of madness but it's probably the same advice as for preventing prostate cancer, clear the pipes 20 times a month

The human instinct to help and care about other living beings is so strong that they invented a device to save/resuscitate miners' canaries 💚

Something I'm fascinated by is these people don't stand for anything but they also don't accidentally let good happen. The only way that can happen is if they intimately know that these things are good and must be stopped. It's a hell of an existence to create. A perfect inverse of progress.

The whole business is really fucking horrible and it doesn't help when people get called mega hitler for being a bit "hang on this isn't a great way to do things"

Biggest problem with modern Star Wars rip-offs is that Star Wars itself was a rip off of about 10 things, and the current crop of wannabes are just ripping off Star Wars. At least with a spin off you don't need to spend half the run time being defensive about what you're ripping off

Countries have transaction limits at an above which some amount of investigation is required—in the US it's $10k. Banks can set their own lower thresholds; likely the $2k here. Sending multiple transfers below that level is called "structuring" and it's something you absolutely should not do

You know it's actually crazy-making to think about. The chance to translate the most kinetic print medium into the most incredible visuals possible and Marvel is like no this a job for the accountants

Not to bring it all back to Marvel but it feels notable that the MCU's rise to dominance followed a period of strongly diverse and creative image-making in the comics and the films did not at all capitalise on that
