Publication day for Penda's Fen: Scene By Scene. It's a non-chronological kaleidoscope of adventure through my favourite Play for Today. It was a thrill to mine the earlier drafts of Rudkin's script, which throw up so much new info. You can order it here: tenacrefilms.bigcartel.com/product/pend...

Maddening that the BBC does lovely new transfers of important archive for transmission on Four, but doesn't actually bother to tell anyone. The latest is Nigel Finch's Lost Language of Cranes which went out this week. Remi Adefarasin's photography looks *astonishing*. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

The radio drama that got me looked at for Doctor Who, back on air tomorrow. Producer told me many years ago that the BBC had wiped the masters, so it's a collector to the rescue. Bootlegs of various qualities have been knocking around for a while, it's nice to be legit again

It’s Billy Wilder’s birthday The day after his death, Le Monde’s front page obituary had the headline: ‘Billy Wilder dies. Nobody's perfect.’

To celebrate the actor’s six decades playing Steven Tyler, today Big Finish has released ‘A Feast of Steven’ – two new stories performed by Peter Purves, available to download for free. cultbox.co.uk/news/big-fin...

Doctor Who's The Well continues the trend of roughly doubling its audience in the +28 viewing figures with a finish just outside the Top 20 #DoctorWho

Terrific archaeology from Nicholas on the unmade Chris Priest Who scripts and the untidy versions of the story around them. Well worth your time.

How awesome is this!!!

Love this …Dog befriends an otter and they meet up every day 💙😎💙

"Everyone who has ever felt the constituent parts of their own sexuality refusing to align should watch [Penda's Fen] and fall in love with their own strangeness." A good piece by Benedict Morrison, just up, and marking Pride. theconversation.com/hidden-gems-...

Moonbase vinyl coming in September! #DoctorWho

My favourite Sundays album - Static and Silence - is getting a vinyl (re)release! www.juno.co.uk/products/the...

Paging the #UncannyCommunity! Intrigued by Stone Tape theory? There's a rare UK TV screening of the drama that gave the theory its name - 10.10pm tonight on Talking Pictures TV. Plus, a few devotees of the piece with be live-tweeting facts throughout using the hashtag #stonetapelive. Do join us!

This dog was left in a car on the hottest day of the year. Remember - heat kills!

Pokerface is just one of the most clever, funny and unpredictable shows on tv right now. Plus - in tribute to an ancient Oucho the Cactus as Lady Gaga sketch - me and Husband get to say “is there a new episode of Pongerra Fassa yet?” to each other. THE FUN NEVER ENDS

Shows I’m currently watching on Apple: Murderbot: (hot) laconic robot prefers watching tv shows to interacting with people (relatable) Careme: spy-chef (with the most 1980s hair you’ve ever seen) on missions in Napoleonic France. Also hot.

Ordered! Penda’s Fen is an endlessly fascinating and ambiguous play and I can’t think of anyone better to uncover and reveal its processes and subtleties than @greavesian.bsky.social

We're not just about the books. In our Sound Archive we're still using this 1980s Revox B77 reel-to-reel machine to copy and digitise our collection of local history recordings and BBC radio broadcasts. And for pretending we're on Chock-A-Block. (yes we're old)

Old pal told me he’d been on a holiday whose itinerary had been completely planned by ChatG*T. Did quietly wonder if it also told him when to take pictures, be happy or cross, and what to eat for dinner too… (Also hoped it would have directed him to a completely non existent campsite. Sadly not)

I've been wanting to do a Patrick Wolf Baker's Dozen for years and lo! here it is – 13 favourites from Nico to Björk, Shirley & Dolly Collins, Dead Can Dance, Lili Boulanger, Stereolab, Joni Mitchell & more: thequietus.com/interviews/b...

The thread about the Edinburgh Police Box; architectural Time Traveller but no TARDIS! The year 2025 is an important anniversary for Edinburgh, it marks the centenary of the appointment of Ebenezer James Macrae as City Architect. Dubbed "the man who shaped modern Edinburgh", his work was…

my hottest educational take is that schools should actively, non-punitively teach students how to admit when they don't know something, aren't sure or have made a mistake, with various teaching frameworks adapted to support this ideal, because people who can't admit fault are breaking the world

- I asked ChatGPT—- - Well, I asked the Morpho Brain Creatures and they said if I just lie down and put this Somnar Disc on my forehead I will realise everything is COMPLETELY FINE

Watching a highly entertaining late VT era Blackman Avengers: The Secrets Broker (Did Jack May ever give a small performance, I wonder?)

New research from MIT found that those who used ChatGPT can’t remember any of the content of their essays. Key takeaway: the product doesn’t suffer, but the process does. And when it comes to essays, the process *is* how they learn. arxiv.org/pdf/2506.088...

"If someone had said, “Who cares how desert lizard venom works? Let’s not fund that research,” we never would have discovered semaglutide, a key component of drugs such as Wegovy and Ozempic, which have helped millions of Americans lose weight." Curiosity-driven research is amazing.
