Contrary to the “hope is not a plan” folks, hope is a part of every plan. You been some hope to even make a plan. Then you plan for everything you can and hope you did enough. Hope is what what makes you get up when you get knocked down. This can be perceived as stubbornness though.

what i see is a white house whose ambitions outstrip its resources, who did not count on facing mass resistance, and which is scrambling to escalate the situation in hopes that a display of force will make people shut up

Like fundamentally if your idea of life is a zero-sum "there are always winners and losers and every social interaction must be combative" mindset, we should accept you for who you are and put you on an island with a machete and with your kin so you can live your best lives.

One of the challenges in talking about (AI + indie publishing + bookselling) is how blurry the terms “AI”, “machine learning”, “Large Language Models”, “not-large-models-that-also-use-language”, “algorithms”, and “really big and complex algorithms” have become. 7/
