Why the living fuck is video mute/unmute a) a persistent global setting, which is b) changed via video interaction??? Like, if i want to unmute *One Video*, it does not follow that i want *Every Other Video I Encounter* to then default to unmuted. What the hell, y'all

Christ what an absolute embarrassment, WaPo

THIS PARADE COULD HAVE BEEN AN EMAIL 💀💀💀💀💀💀

“(Fortunate Son) became a Vietnam anti-war movement anthem and an expressive symbol of the counterculture's opposition to executive power grabs, including opposition to the draft and solidarity with the soldiers fighting the Vietnam War.”

Trump looking absolutely inconsolable at his fascist-themed 79th birthday party which no one turned up to other than those who had to because he's their boss.

One block over from the White House: the aspirational security line setup

The US may actually have a semblance of a popular front brewing for the first time in recent memory. There are a LOT of non-MAGA Republican boomers at these No Kings protests around LA

Trying to remember when the Mall was ever this empty...

Live scene from the Washington Mall for Trump’s parade, via a local NBC4 reporter. Meanwhile, millions are protesting nationally.

Here’s a New York Times photo of the Chicago “No Kings” rally. NYT said the march that followed spanned at least 10 blocks.

Do you know how badly you have to screw up as a Republican to get this kind of turnout in IDAHO? #NOKINGS

I hated being out of town for this today because this is the Durham I love.

No Kings march in Durham, NC. Easily the largest protest I've been to in Durham. Thousands ahead and behind me on the street /1

If you take one thing away from today, let it be that we outnumber them.

Elevate the voices of people who have been talking about the violence of the Rightwing for decades. Those are the folks who know what they are talking about.

The Minnesota situation is very bad. Once Trump involves himself, it will get worse.

Durham #NoKings protest

Discworld QOTD, from Snuff “Cheery was aware that Commander Vimes didn't like the phrase 'The innocent have nothing to fear', believing the innocent had everything to fear, mostly from the guilty but in the longer term even more from those who say things like 'The innocent have nothing to fear'.”

So this week we’ve had a man impersonating an ICE agent tie up a woman and steal $1000; a man impersonating a police officer assassinate a top Democratic politician & her husband (and shoot another Democrat & his wife); and a man impersonating a king hold a military parade for his birthday

charlottesville’s no kings day protest isn’t scheduled to start until noon, but there are hundreds of people already lining the street with their signs

Only somewhat related to this (very good, very unsettling) story, but as we hear more about how previously normal people react when constant, obsequious praise and affirmation is heaped on them by chatbots, it feels like a window into how so many celebrities and rich people end up like…that.

Give it up for the Raging Grannies, here today in Chapel Hill, North Carolina! Let's Stop The Coup! #ncpol #NoKings

My small town of Brevard, N.C. turns out. #NCPolitics No Kings Cakes Brevard Mayor Maureen Copelof Big, big turnout. Lots of love and support from people driving by. #NoKings

Charlotte, North Carolina #NoKings #NCpol #Trump

Some thoughts about the military parade in my hometown of Washington DC today -- specifically, the route. Military parades in DC are quite rare. But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

you want cringe people to show up. earnest cringe people showing up is a sign that the protest is broadly popular.

I can't tell you how invigorating and inspiring and hopeful it is to be in a crowd of people who also care. Took a group of teens to the last big protest and they were most struck by no longer feeling alone. If you're able to go, I encourage you to try. Get a group of friends & go together.

ICE is going to parks in Los Angeles and kidnapping nannies who are caring for small children The children are witnessing these kidnappings and being held in custody until their parents are contacted Women and children in parks

Protests are now happening daily in the NC Triangle area (and twice tomorrow in Raleigh.) Joining your local Indivisible group will help you keep up! Find your rally tomorrow and get involved! @wakencindivisible.bsky.social @bullcityindivisi.bsky.social #ncpol #nokings indivisible.org/groups

Excited to see that black people performing country music are only eligible for 3/5ths of a Grammy

I would like to once again say that once they arrested Ras Baraka every elected Dem should have understood what was in store.

Reminder that seven Democratic senators voted to confirm Kristi Noem and six Dem senators declined to vote either way. She was confirmed, 59-34. The good faith experiment is clearly over, and we need the Democratic senators who didn't stand against her nomination to be loud as hell right now.

The state of California needs to arrest the DHS "security" forces for assault and every Democrat in the U.S. Senate needs to sign onto a campaign to impeach Kristi Noem. Right fucking now.

Say what you will about Gavin Newsom (no seriously, please, say more, we’re just scratching the surface of ways in which he sucks), he has the the national reach to make “Trump’s brain is goo” the round-the-clock news story it deserves to be

Can’t emphasize enough what a disgrace this whole sad episode was

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

The idea that the progressive left used the internet to bully institutions into accepting unpopular, far-left positions is the exact opposite of what has actually happened. The alt-right used the internet for ideological capture and they are now in the White House bragging about it daily

I continue to believe that in times like these, we all share a collective duty NOT to splatter our demotivating feelings of doom and despair all over everybody else in public. I don’t care if it makes YOU feel better. This isn’t about YOU. Deal with those feelings outside of public venues.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.
