#andor is over and the bar for how to write #starwars well is now in the stratosphere. I seriously doubt anything will measure up to this kind of quality and intention. Thank you to the entire crew.

Chills. Every time.

The latest episodes of #Andor show how authoritarianism becomes ordinary — how people get crushed by systems pretending to keep order. We break it down in our article on the show as a metaphor for American fascism: www.wired.com/story/star-w...

What a speech this was.

A bit late, but just finished the first 3 Ep's of Andor S2, and I'm just stunned how good it is. The wedding sequence was impeccable, juxtaposed to the struggles of the rebels in the field, so good. Mon's internal struggles, Leida's rejection, Luthen's work, everything was written so well.

RFK Jr. ordered the NIH’s Integrated Research Facility in Frederick to stop all research on serious infectious diseases yesterday at 5:00 PM. They study pathogens like Ebola there. You may be familiar with it from The Hot Zone. www.wired.com/story/hhs-ni...

I love Rogue One and Andor so much that I am avoiding watching the final season. I don't want it to end. #starwars

@johnleguizamo.bsky.social is breathing fire and I'm here for it. Fear is the mind killer.

Thousands of US Department of Agriculture employees, including food inspectors and disease-sniffing dog trainers, remain out of work, leaving food to rot in ports and pests to proliferate.

A robust public and open source digital infrastructure and tooling will not save us, but it sure will make citizens more resilient and self-reliant. This looks soo good. #design #opensource #foss

We went from “what good are the humanities?” to “suddenly, no one can read” in about a year, and the answer to the first question is the disinformation and lack of critical thinking you see all around you. *That* is why you need the humanities. This is what they prevent.

This is Winston Churchill visiting Washington DC to request assistance in the war against Germany. Notice he is wearing a "zip suit" and not a traditional suit. This was to honor the British troops--the same reason Zelensky dresses the way he does.

The interactivity in this article is 🪄. While I teach all these topics in my vis course, being able to play with each concept is a wonderful amplifier to understanding.

We're going to make it through this 🩷💙 Let's turn our fear and rage into community action.

Some advice if you want to keep your sanity and dignity in the foreseeable future. Things one shouldn't care about: - what music they listen to - what hand gestures they use - what words they speak - what deity/religion they invoke Instead, spend your energy on understanding: - what policies […]

Trans and non-binary people exist and have always existed and will always exist.

Welcome #tiktokrefugees especially #booktok to #booksky "converts." Looking for writers and readers of #scifi and #fantasy. Last read Mistborn (Sanderson) , currently reading Worlds of Exile and Illusion (collection of Le Guin).

Looking at the state of design, especially in big tech, it is clearer than ever that objects and technology have values encoded in them. To me, as a scholar of design and an educator, it used to be more difficult to teach this concept and convince some people that technology is not neutral […]

Cool to see so many #hci folks here. Congrats to everyone whose work got accepted to #CHI2025. And if you didn't get accepted, keep at it.

Really interesting perspective on the potential impact of GenAI on Design work. I particular agree with their perspective on the influence of managerialism on Design work and the how Design Thinking has not done the profession a service... www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

This is a monumental day for the future of the open web, though it might not be obvious for a while. Mastodon matures its governance model with a great, solid non-profit blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/01/the-... and a coalition of independents push to open up Bluesky's AT Protocol: freeourfeeds.com

Wikipedia is one of the last bastions of truth (not perfect, but better than a lot of alternatives). It is a threat to the far right and the incoming administration. Of course it is being targeted. And since it cannot be directly targeted, the far right will target the everyday volunteer editors.
