I don't buy that ChatGPT will break your brain anymore than I lament the abacus skills lost to calculators. BUT when you have too many tasks and too little executive function to do them well, replacing them with ChatGPT output creates far more work in the long run.

Gritty is the way

TIL

I mean in context, I'll take totally out of control ;-)

since younger people are asking how shockingly stupid things were in 2003, may I present to you this circa-03 sign that I bought from a local restaurant and their (unrelated) going out of business sale a few years later

I will gladly call them freedom fries if I can have $2 prices again!

*old person voice* whaaat? It's illegal to have only two genders? in MY day mycelium weren't role models for mammals...

It’s more complicated than this. If you use AI to revise what you’ve written yourself, you have greater cognitive engagement. Because AI is a tool, not a replacement.

Double ugh. I told her, They don’t want me. (Hey, I don’t want me, either, but I’m stuck with me.)

how we doing out there tonight

Imagine reading this statement from the NIH 6+ months ago.

In a world dominated by Algorithms, be the Youtube that knows what song to make me have all the feels. Like, I'm not saying it's "good"... but it's just very different.

Hey @bsky.app @support.bsky.team love you folks but I have a request. I'm one of the larger accounts on here but I suspect that not EVERY user on this website has seen Alf’s genitals. Perhaps a tweak of the algorithm is in order. Thanks.

OK. #NotAllBirbs

It's like, OK if "don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got till it's gone", and you were ignorant, and you are just now realizing how many kids we saved from dying of TB. And it's OK if you don't know much about what ELSE USAID did. But let's all get on team No TB.

USAID was one of the best things we, America, ever did. There is not really room for dispute on this unless your moral calculus is so different as to be alien.

I mean, I literally bought elk jerky for Christmas. Nothing wrong with elk. Just... raw??? Really? It's not salmon, brah

Wild how the Fed chair saying that *entire regions of the United States* won’t be able to get a mortgage in the next decade barely registered as a news event

it's SO WEIRD that genes can be so evolutionarily conserved, and chromosomes just look like somebody took a deck of cards and shuffled

YOUR ENEMIES LAMENT YOUR VERY EXISTENCE. CAN YOU TOUCH SOMETHING SOFT?

Why was it that only the WORST ex took 35 pictures of me??? www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAlz...

Somewhat related- one of the weird things about Covid was that it quickly became easier for me to find twitter people who were legitimate public health experts than trust everything CDC ect officially said. This phenomenon has not improved.

Frens, my Bluesky feed is weird and I loved that everyone was obsessed with No Kings Day, but there was a LOT of stuff focused on crowd size juxtaposed to Grumpy Trumpy that was super propaganda. The facts are strong enough, why are the lies so popular?

I admire birders, in that it is an outdoor activity that isn't easy to make productivity or consumption related, and caters to nerdy folks who know a lot. But at a deep level, I don't think birds are as neat as frogs.

Reminder that if Democracies are defined by *not* arresting protestors, the US hasn't been a democracy ever, but especially not since 2007 www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...

I actually love that this index exists. I thought it'd be something simple like Stonks/Goldbug but it's a little more complicated than that.

Ok but where was Persepolis for Iraq?

#ICYMI: We've added 23 staffers to our DOGE tracker, taking the total to 109. We also revealed the makeup of the DOGE team at the Defense Department, a group made up primarily of tech startup founders.

This is where it is necessary to have a president who can understand the intelligence and is willing to take the briefings.

Lost in all today's other news is that Trump removed a commissioner from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Read this thread.

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Food systems are the #2 contributor to climate change, the #1 driver of deforestation, the #1 driver of biodiversity loss on land, and the #1 user of freshwater. (It follows that food systems contain many solutions to these problems.)

BREAKING: A federal judge in Massachusetts (the Reagan-appointed William Young) has declared the Trump administration's cuts to NIH grants — ostensibly over Trump's EOs on gender ideology and DEI — are "illegal" and "void." He's ordering many grants restored.

"Direct File showed what real government efficiency is—identifying a need and delivering for people in a way that actually makes their lives better.” — @merici.bsky.social

I suspect everyone supports nuclear until it's in their backyard

(this is of course a lie I know exactly why the Women's March keeps getting memory-holed)

I need everyone on Normal People internet to know that American Girl Doll Instagram is doing doll protests today. There are tiny t-shirts and signs. AND THEN I realized it's a joint protest with the Barbie ppl, where there are EVEN TINIER SIGNS.

the last few days have put me *through it* but the No Kings Yas Queens Pride March & Protest was a nice way to end the week
