Time to pick a side, America. Is this the future you want for us?

Celebrate Juneteenth—but don’t pretend that the U.S. ever abolished slavery, or that this is in fact a “land of the free.” shahidbuttar.substack.com/p/juneteenth...

"They’re taking Shirly": An Army sergeant thought his family was safe. Then ICE deported his wife. [Published with our friends @thewarhorsenews.bsky.social]

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered. Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again. Their inaction is deadly.

Mr. Antiwar President has us inches away from a Civil War at home and a nuclear war abroad in defense of an ally that is starting random hot regional wars to detract from its ongoing genocide. I’m sure all of this will just naturally cool off.

Again, I will just say that literally every person I have ever met would do better than this

NEW: A ProPublica investigation found that for more than a decade, the FDA gave substandard factories banned from the United States a special pass to keep sending drugs to an unsuspecting public.

There’s basically no difference between the NYT, WaPo, and WSJ editorial boards today. That’s because at that level, liberals think embracing some right-wing bullshit is a sign of thoughtfulness—that it shows an appreciation for nuance—rather than simply indicating comfort and privilege.

I was arrested in 2015 for asking a question of James Clapper, an Obama administration official who lied to Congress under oath about surveillance and was rewarded with a pension and an entourage. Can you hear me now?

“Y’all, we did it — Tulsa just created a $105 million reparations plan for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.” (From @thebwstimes.bsky.social )

The trail of tears represents not only among the worst human rights abuses in our nation’a ugly history, but also an example of what happens when the executive branch ignores the courts—as it is again today. shahidbuttar.substack.com/p/a-constitu...

Shift the balance of power. Don’t buy their cars. Don’t watch their movies. Don’t read their books. Don’t buy their merch. Don’t invest in their crypto. Don’t use their social media. Don’t visit their theme parks. Don’t dress as their characters. Don’t wear their hats. Don’t spread their propaganda.

Memorial Day is a time to recall how to stand in solidarity with veterans. The most meaningful way is to take action to stop war in the first place.

It's not really deportation if people are sent to countries where they never lived. It's a human trafficking ring. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

The fact that this man had one foot in the grave and Democrats still elected him into leadership over AOC speaks to the fact that there is an established group of Dems that believe in self preservation and serving corporate interests over serving the people and winning election.

I wonder if the highly coordinated, extremely well-funded right-wing messaging machine consisting of media outlets, think tanks, and activist groups has anything to do with why so many Americans vote for a party that pushes an agenda that consistently polls poorly. No, it’s gotta be “the left.”

Self-identifying as a centrist is perhaps the most cynical and amoral political identity you can have because you're just openly admitting your beliefs aren't really beliefs they're just strategic positions that only exist relative to others in the room you happen to be in

"He’ll eat in a room with a floor covered in feces. He’ll ask, many times, for supplies to clean it up... he’ll gradually start to long to be deported to El Salvador, a country he barely knows. He’ll want this but won’t get it, because this is an ICE jail." How is every story worst than the last?

"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging." Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council. I wrote about my decision in TIME. time.com/7285045/resi...

Mother’s Day was remarkable this year. Events around the world seemed to answer the plea for peace that established Mother’s Day in the first place.

$3.3 billion for the best postal service in the world? what a bargain, we pay $47 billion just to raytheon

When Democrats whine about Trump, remind them how their failures put him in office. If supporting “the lesser among evils” led us here, maybe it’s time to do something different.

Also, remember Kent State.

#Maythe4th be with you. And may Star Wars fans recall the allegory behind the original Star Wars saga.

Trump policies are harming the economy no less than democracy in America.

Only Nixon could open China, only Bill Clinton could destroy welfare, and only Republicans could destroy the foundations of small businesses in America lol

May the Fourth is a day of celebration among Star Wars enthusiasts. How many of them understand the allegory that inspired George Lucas to write the Star Wars movies? It grows only more important with every passing day.

"'[S]cientific evidence' used to imprison people for heinous crimes has been increasingly discredited. ... A quarter of the 3,439 exonerations tracked by the National Registry of Exonerations involved false or misleading forensic evidence. But these exonerations are only the tip of the iceberg."

I just passed the Red Cross lifeguard certification exam, three months before my 51st birthday! Feeling kinda proud of myself since most of my cohort is half my age and I couldn’t even swim at all until I was 9 or 10. How things change….

Historians: Quibbling Over Exact Definition Of Concentration Camp Sign Of Healthy Society

If you think the courts are going to save us from the ICE goon squads abducting and deporting Americans randomly in broad daylight, you might not have been paying attention for the last 25 years.

The gestapo plus drones is happening kinda fast.

Americans tend not to appreciate the rule of law, or how to defend it. Most also focus on only the most recent part of the crisis unfolding across America, overlooking the complicity of Democrats in enabling the rise of overt autocracy. open.substack.com/pub/shahidbu...

"It is a hospital, a hospital where there are only people in pain and moaning all night over the loss of their loved ones and limbs, bleeding and spitting blood ... [Israel] bombed the reception area where the wounded are admitted, and they bombed the pharmacy that supplies us with medicine."

Trump says he'd like to deport US citizens to El Salvador: "I'd like to go a step further. I don't know what the laws are, we always have to obey the laws, but we also have homegrown criminals that push people into subways... I'd like to include them in the group of people to get out of the country"

Concerned about a constitutional crisis? It’s probably worse than you realize.
