more Russian strikes aimed at civilians

your regular reminder that authoritarian populism will make your country corrupt and poor. look at Hungary

Darren Beattie - the State Dept official who dismantled the US government's main center for fighting Russian and Chinese propaganda around the world - turns out to have personal ties to the Russian elite. www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025...

People around the world are starving now because of Musk’s cuts. They are dying of disease because of Musk’s cuts. They are being born with diseases they will carry with them for the rest of their lives because of Musk’s cuts. https://trib.al/91rI7x6

meanwhile over on X ... (it's hard to take Musk turning on Trump's bill at face value but there is clearly going on than meets the eye here)

wow -- @lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com chokes up while talking about how the Trump administration is killing kids who relied on USAID to get life-saving medicine

Trump already fired his first FEMA chief last month. This is the upgrade.

Ukraine could’ve launched the attack on civilian population centers, like Russia does to them daily. Instead, they chose a strictly military target - the very bombers being used to kill Ukrainian civilians. A brilliant operation solely designed to defend their own people.

Wow, this one Fox actually covered. But let’s see whether this gets any run on their network instead of just the website.

Murphy: "Moody's just downgraded the US. They didn't do that under Biden, they did it under Trump, bc they look at this bill- the attack on the middle class, the diminution of spending power that comes with it, and the deficits - & say that if implemented, it's is gonna make the economy much weaker"

Chris Murphy on the crypto bill: "The problem is the existing version of that bill exempts the president from the ethics requirements. It says it's unethical for me to issue or market a stablecoin, but it's okay for the president to do it. That's not something any Democrat should vote for."

Day by day, we’re seeing the Justice Department effectively decriminalize and wave away crimes by Trump’s friends and instead selectively focus investigatory resources on Trump’s adversaries and enemies. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/crime-is-n...

"These normie Republicans have become willing enablers of the cruelty and autocracy, the destructiveness and lawlessness, coming from the administration they support. Which is why some of us are no longer Republicans, and are unlikely to become Republicans again." www.thebulwark.com/p/rfk-jr-mah...

"Trump officials say the migrants are a public safety threat and a drain on the nation’s resources." In terms of the groups the Trump administration is referring to here, this is simply false. wapo.st/3FpDQFh

An incredibly devastating decision which simply ignores the human costs and blesses the Trump admin's stripping of status of hundreds of thousands of people who entered the country legally — which the explicit stated goal of rapidly deporting those people without a court hearing.

The Republican Party decided long ago that lying was a great political tactic, way better than yard signs, door-knocking and robo calls. The GOP realized its lies cost nothing to produce, and right-wing media would happily spread them, also for free.

I wouldnt be too quick to buy this. Musk got what he came for all along—our personal information. The world’s richest guy doesn’t walk away from a $250 mil investment empty handed. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/u...

Looking forward to the confirmation hearing.

Wow. Trump trashes the Federalist Society and calls Leonard Leo a “sleezebag.”

The Apology Tour rolls on.

Homicide rates: NY 4.5, FL 7.2 Life expectancy: NY 79, FL 76.1 Uninsured rate: NY 4.8, FL 10.7

This administration was already a joke in countless ways. But the USCIT’s decision striking down Trump’s tariffs could not make him look more hapless.

🚨BREAKING: In a devastating loss for Trump, a federal court has just invalidated his tariffs, ruling that he lacked the authority to impose them unilaterally without congressional approval. So. Much. Winning.

Ukrainians are confident that they can continue fighting—even without the same level of American support, @anneapplebaum.bsky.social reports. Read more: https://theatln.tc/O2j130pw

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

When @preetbharara writes something, I stop to read. Always. open.substack.com/pub/staytune...

"Trump Pardoned Tax Cheat After Mother Attended $1 Million Dinner."

The Memorial Day Message from the President of the United States of America, in memory of those who have given their lives defending America, the Constitution, and the freedoms that we Americans enjoy on this Memorial Day 2025.

Jong-Fast: This would be the largest cut to food assistance in US history—and it will result in hungry kids. It’s also important to mention that this bill grows the deficit. I don’t know how it manages to do the two things you absolutely don’t want—starve children and grow the deficit—but it does.

Crockett: It is time for Republicans to start calling him out and start questioning his mental acuity, and whether or not he is equipped to serve mentally. We know when it comes down to his criminality, he is not qualified to serve, but this is just absolutely deplorable.

Trump just pardoned a corrupt sheriff who was found guilty of taking bribes in exchange for law endorsement badges. Those who bought the badges used them to drive in emergency lanes, bypass TSA lines, and for other favors.

The executive branch is responsible for issuing student visas to attend Harvard (or any other school), and vetting those students for possible national security concerns is part of that process

It's also a misunderstanding of what the grants are for. It's not a billion dollar donation, Harvard won the grants to do specific research that it is in a relatively unique position to do. Trade schools aren't going to be able to take over, eg, Harvard's cancer immunotherapy research.

How do we get Trump to be as tough on Russia as he is with Greenland and Canada?

He never stopped. He laughed at Trump and continued the killing, because Trump is an international joke and his foreign policy team is filled with bumbling, weak, appeasing incompetents.

‼️‼️

Funny, but when I was a federal prosecutor, people, including folks I know to be conservative Republicans, were absolutely adamant about prosecuting pay-to-play schemes that were much less bold and audacious than this one. Those folks all seem to have gone into hiding now.
