I’ve been appointed as a member of the Asian Chemical Biology Initiative. Honored to be part of this amazing chemical biology community. I’ll do my best—looking forward to contributing! www.asianchembio.com

Chemists Stuart Schreiber of Harvard University and Arena BioWorks and Peter Schultz of @scripps.edu will split the 2025 Welch Award in Chemistry for their work in the field of chemical biology. cen.acs.org/people/award... #chemsky🧪

Here come our new palette of fluorescent dyes. The BD dyes endeaves to balance glowy brightness, robust photostability, and biocompatibility. Let's boost 4D dynamic super-resolution imaging!!! www.nature.com/articles/s41... @spirochrome.com

Do you have bioactive compounds/drug molecules and want to unveil the mode of action? Chemoproteomic profiling is a promising solution to reveal the interaction partners in the cells, so to get a sense of how it works.

Protein Engineering, Design & Selection (PEDS) invites contributions to a Special Collection titled, “Non-Canonical Amino Acids", with guest editors Prof. Huiwang Ai (Virginia) and Prof. Peng Chen (Peking). Send us your best work! academic.oup.com/peds/pages/c...

Very happy to see this cool application of our SLIPT technology from Richard Wombacher's lab @wombacherlab.bsky.social. With dual SLIPT, you can now control defined, sequential protein dimerization on the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane! Congrats to all the authors! 🎉

Happy to share our new publication in ACS Chemical Biology @pubs.acs.org reporting a new chemical biology tool – dual SLIPT! Congratulations to first author Kristina Bayer @XXX, all co-authors and collaborator Shige Yoshimura @XXX. Open Access: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/... (1/5)

Our new lab photo for 2025😃 Very grateful and excited to keep pushing science forward with this amazing team!!🚀

Happy to see my Postdoc work out @natbiotech.nature.com. Using HaloTag and synthetic fluorophores instead of FPs enables us to shift the spectral properties of kinase activity reporters (KARs) to the far-red 🔬. Huge thanks to everyone involved @jinzhanglab.bsky.social! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

New tools! GreenPy and ApplePy are fluorescent biosensors for pyruvate with huge responses (20–40x in vitro) and a range of affinities (10s of μM to mM). These should be game changers for imaging of metabolism! Great work by Shosei Imai @sikmys.bsky.social and team 👏. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

After 6 years of careful experiments, we’re excited to share our latest manuscript on the identification and function of the PDZD8–FKBP8 protein complex! We now have convincing evidence that structural regulation of mitochondria via ER–mitochondria tethering proteins is real. rdcu.be/eihrF

I’m thrilled to announce the launch of the Drug Target Discovery Institute on April 28 at Korea University College of Medicine! Check out the opening symposium poster & join us for an inspiring symposium featuring three world-renowned keynote speakers:

We're looking for 1-2 enthusiastic early career chemists to join our Open Chemistry team at @hhmijanelia.bsky.social. Come help us create amazing dyes and share them with the world. Please share with the best recent/soon-to-be B.S. chemists you know! bit.ly/42w8C6N

My lab at @ethzurich.bsky.social is looking for a motivated PhD student. We develop chemical tools for advanced fluorescence microscopy 🔬 and work at the interface of synthetic chemistry ⚗️ and protein engineering 🦠. Sharing with skilled Master students appreciated. Happy to be in Osaka again & participating 2025 annual meetings in Chemistry Society of Japan (CSJ). What a beautiful Kansai University campus. I am honored to be invited for a Keynote lecture in Asian International Symposium. Learned a lot from this fantastic session.

I am delighted to share that I have taken on the role of Editor-in-Chief of Protein Engineering, Design & Selection. From the dawn of molecular biology to the current golden age of protein engineering, PEDS has been a cornerstone of the community. Send us your best work! academic.oup.com/peds

It’s an honor to receive the ACS Chem Biol Young Investigator Award! I’m most grateful for the contributions from all past & present lab members — it is an award for all of you as much as for me. (& also grateful to still be considered young 😅) axial.acs.org/chemical-bio... @acsbiol.bsky.social 1/2

🚨New preprint: There's this overlooked phospholipid with 3 acyl tails called NAPE that is made during ischemia. We identified its interactome & found it regulates lactate flux, suggesting metabolic functions in response to hypoxia. Congrats to Dylan Chiu! doi.org/10.26434/che... #lipidtime #chembio

New review on genetically encoded CDK biosensors from the Kazuhiro Aoki lab! Congrats to Goto-san, Aoki-san, and all authors! www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/csf/...

#PhD Opportunity in #ChemicalBiology! Fantastic fully-funded PhD position available on Protein Hotspot Mapping for Protein-Protein Interaction Studies and Peptide Ligand Discovery. 📅 Deadline: 31 Mar 25 ➡️ Click here: www.findaphd.com/phds/project...

This year's master's thesis defense and undergraduate research presentations are all complete! Here is a group shot of Tomoki and Xiaotong (M2), along with Masahiro, Shoei, and Yusuke (B4), after their presentations. They all did a great job in both their talks and the Q&A session👏

Some good news: applications are open for the Weill Institute Emerging Scholars Symposium @ Cornell! Senior PhD students and, now, postdocs interested in networking & presenting their work in cell & molecular biology at Cornell should apply by Apr 14. Please repost! wicmb.cornell.edu/emerging-sch...

I, along with Dr. Sarah Shaykevich, will be speaking about red and near-infrared genetically encoded Ca2+ biosensors in the European Calcium Society (ECS) webinar on Wednesday, February 26th at 5 PM CET. This webinar series is open to everyone! docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

📣 On March 27, the Asian International Symposium will take place at the 105th CSJ Annual Meeting. Six leading researchers from China & Korea, along with six outstanding young researchers from Japan, will give talks. Chemical biologists attending the CSJ meeting—don’t miss it!

Some of our molecular probes and bifunctional molecules may be getting chewed up by an unexpected adversary in cells:

Our recent work, published in ACS Chemical Biology, is highlighted in the @science.org blog "In the Pipeline" by Derek Lowe. Thanks for the insightful commentary! Annoying Enzyme Activity | Science | AAAS www.science.org/content/blog...

Our latest story: a protein-protein interaction between an E3 ubiquitin ligase and an autophagy adaptor affects liquid-liquid phase separation and sequestration of a key mediator of antioxidant signaling — but not via ubiquitination! Bravo to Lin Luan and Xiaofu Cao! doi.org/10.1101/2025...
