I will be talking with @hekate.bsky.social next week at Juno Books in Sheffield to talk about her new book, Hermaphrodite Logic: A History of Intersex Liberation. Tickets and more information: www.outsavvy.com/event/27505/...

Ireland: the new open front which the Gender Critical Ideology Movement opened in Ireland last week proceeds apace with same basic approach as was taken in the UK. Irish people may wish to tell TDs their views. www.irishtimes.com/crime-law/co...

Bizarre choice from the Telegraph here to describe statements from the union representing teaching and academic staff at unis and colleges as "student protest." Presumably an attempt to undercut and trivialise the solidarity shown by @ucu.org.uk

Fantastic read. The war on trans people right now is vomit inducing

Chapter re-draft sent. I'm just chilling on the sofa listening to Pharoah Sanders.

COINCIDENTALLY /sark Labour are cutting its other conferences for minorities as well, using the pretext of "cost". This "Clarity" stuff is going great.

Excluding trans women and then scapegoating trans women for potential legal threats in order to shut down labour women's conference entirely.

Real cool that transfeminists keep being driven off here for saying outrageous things like "misogyny is bad" and "can you all be even slightly normal about me please?"

Jess O'Thompson tirelessly works to cover trans issues, advocate for trans lives, and was integral to rolling out a comprehensive summary of the recent UK Supreme Court opinion within 24 hours of it going live. They break their body and wellbeing to fight for trans community. This is their thanks.

Trying to think of a name for a blog and it's hard. Setting up Common Genders was similar in that choosing a name took ages!

Anyone in or near Sheffield, I will be hosting this in June.

I think with the maps released today by TGEU and ILGA. I want trans people to look at them and not so much despair or resort to alarmist notions of planning to flee to other European countries. But to think about how to get more active and counter this reactionary turn against our rights.

hahahaha Literally not one word about trans people (and particularly trans women and trans children) being segregated, persecuted and excluded from work, life and school. Cool. cool. Great allyship

🧵 🏳️‍⚧️ Out today, the 2025 edition of our Trans Rights Index & Map shows an unprecedented reversal: for the first time in the Map’s 13-year history, setbacks in human rights of trans people across Europe and Central Asia now clearly outweigh progress. #TransRights #TransRightsAreHumanRights

Rejecting parties at pride is a necessary correction to decades of politicians using photo opportunities without delivering equality in a lasting way. I'm really genuinely glad that pride is finally taking this step after years of grass roots work.

I think there's times where I feel like I'm a bit on the sidelines with everything at the moment. It can be frustrating, but it's also just doing what I can and hoping it helps in some way.

I have to say this - if your reaction to Prides banning political parties is "but my party is trans inclusive!" then think again - this is considerably bigger than you or your party (whose support is likely not vocal enough anyway)

I'll regret to report it was indeed very stupid.

Strange as it sounds, but I've never been to a fiction book club. I know there's ones around here, but I'd be curious about any interesting online ones too. A shame that 1804 Books seemed to have stopped running the Red Love Book Club, something like that maybe? 1804books.com/collections/...

transrescue.org/asylum-for-t... Trans Rescue have put out a reality check for Brits and Americans thinking of seeking asylum and advice about moving somewhere less hostile

Sheffield UCU took part in the Workers Day of Action on Trans Rights from our picket lines today! The UK Trade Union movement stands behind our trans siblings #tradeunionists4transrights

Okay first of all, do not panic. This is not a binding thing. It's a 'conference calls on the government' - so basically, if it passes, they're voting just to lobby on this ground. Important to note, yes, but please *do not panic*.

I don't 'refuse to use' AI, I just don't use AI; in the same way that I don't shoplift, or plagiarise other people's books - it requires no effort of will, it's just not something I would think of doing

Was very moved to see the gates of the old East Lancs Paper Mill now include a beautiful red plaque for Betty Tebbs. 'The Time for Action is Now!'

Some highlights from Berlin.

New essay! In the wake of the Supreme Court judgement, I reflect on woke ideology, standards of evidence, rampant lesbianism, and why the transphobes cannot possibly ever win.

You are expected to medically detransition for 13+ years if you transitioned abroad, even if you no longer have gonads to produce hormones. Not exactly great for osteoporosis risk. And these are the same people telling us they're worried about bone health due to puberty blockers.

Highly recommend everyone involved in grassroots women's football to push for secession from FA if you can. It's not like the FA is really supporting women's football seriously anyway so it's not a huge loss (given you have to pay subs to the FA to be a registered team).

This is a shameful decision - my club and the amateur league we're part of are now going to abandon the FA so our trans friends can continue to play.

I'm enjoying Berlin. I'll post pics when I'm back. 😊

Yesterday I shared a post claiming that the BMA had drafted a motion strongly criticizing the recent supreme court judgement. It has turned out to be a fake image. I should have tried to check it out first before I shared it. Sorry, all. My bad.

On 25 April 1974, the Carnation Revolution overthrew Portugal’s fascist Estado Novo junta after four decades of dictatorial rule.

This is the kind of practical action we need as the culture war escalates. Wild that a small music venue is prepared to do this while massive, wealthy institutions like my employer - a university - are not. But this is where people can put pressure as employees, customers, and service users.

First day done! My presentation done! Even got a surprise visit from one of my supervisors.

Here we go! #britsoc25

Such a lovely endorsement from @reproutopia.bsky.social The book is out soon, April 29th! Preorders really help out and this is a brilliant, important book too.

Rehearsing my presentation for the BSA annual conference tomorrow after coffee, that will go well.

Also, when people balk at actually asking our allies to do some ally shit and how that might alienate them, I want to point out that every single trans liberation demo in the last week has been full of trade unionists stepping up and being visible comrades on the knowledge that this fight matters.

Sarah is correct. This is one reason why this statement is so egregious - it's completely unnecessary.

There's a bigger gathering of pro-trans demonstrators in Orkney than the TERFs could muster in Edinburgh for the Supreme Court ruling, in case you want further evidence of who better represents Scottish women.

It's more than comrade Delta, one of our younger trans comrades whistleblew on his experiences in the SWP a year ago. RIP frog
