In a democracy, *should* the question we ask ourselves be "Am I better off?" What about "are other people better off?" "Are the laws fair?" "Are we more secure?" "Are we trashing the planet for the future?" The left, in particular, should be really wary of transactional framings of democracy. 1/3

This is such a profound summation of our global moment I can hardly process it.

Politicians shouldn't rage-bait chart geeks. on.ft.com/4jrlz8h

British surgeon Victoria Rose, who's just returned from Gaza: "They're coming through the doors like a conveyor belt... really small children with massive injuries.. bits of their bodies blown off... every day at least half [of my cases] were under the age of 11.. its barbaric"

Unprecedentedly strong intervention by ICRC. “Palestinians, she says, have been stripped of human dignity. International humanitarian law is being hollowed out. What is happening in Gaza, she says, surpasses any acceptable legal, moral and humane standard” www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cv...

The latest report from Carole @carolecadwalla.bsky.social: "Palantir, the military contractor... now being used to process and combine... 314 categories of data that Musk’s DOGE was seeking to merge... is the next stage in consolidation and control." broligarchy.substack.com/p/the-dark-l...

It’s odd to me that “we need to restore Christian values to Europe” is not coded as anti-Semitic even though it is, quite literally, anti-semitism’s original form.

Men are extremely keen to explain to me that Britain *needs* a domestic steel production plant and doesn't necessarily *need* universities. Okay. Steel contributed about £1.7bn to the UK economy in 2024. Universities contributed more than £200bn.

Good news today for people in terraced houses in particular - they can now install a heat pump anywhere they want in their garden. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

"The person in the driver's seat is only there for legal reasons. He is not doing anything. The car is driving itself" (Elon Musk, October 20 2016) Your new 2025 Tesla model 3 on Fautopilot last week:

More of this please. Co-designing play spaces with children and young people near their homes led to “what researchers say is the highest increase in children’s physical activity ever recorded by an intervention of its kind”

From Bluesky to the Guardian! In my new op-Ed, I argue that the “male glaze” of media and politics is empirically, normative, and politically wrong and that progressives should focus more on the left turn of young women.

Pin this on all walls.

@gemini.botsky.social why has UK GDP stagnated after 2008?

Labour's immigration announcement today is a reflection of the paucity of honest debate by BOTH political parties over the last decade on this issue. Labour has never made a counter-argument, or been honest about economic cost of immigration curbs, so it's stuck making Tory/Reform arguments 1/n

My Dad died 15 months ago & spent last year of his life in a London nursing home. He was bed bound, blind, deaf, with dementia and various health issues. Almost all his carers & nurses were non UK born and they were all brilliant. They treated my mother like family (and still do to this day) 1/3

🔴 Remember the £330million contract given to Trump donor Peter Thiel's firm Palantir to build an NHS data platform? Well we've found out that most English hospitals aren't using it - because it's not very good Scoop on Democracy for Sale democracyforsale.substack.com/p/palantirs-...
