LAPD sweeping people out of the MOCA parking lot- I’ll follow up, I believe that’s private property? Mural says “who is beyond the law? Who is bought and sold? Who is free to choose…” etc.

Surely not!

feeling secondhand shame from this one 😬

Well when the show launched Reagan was president and AIDS was rampaging. It’s wonderful that a show that weird was on for us kids to watch but I don’t think we need to look at the 80s through rose colored glasses (a pet peeve of mine).

They can take my em dashes from my cold, dead fingers. And they might, after they start making terminators.

I think we can all agree that this is a word that deserves to be misspelt.

Ah! I also have no particular allegiance to Lupone. But I do kind of like mouthy bitches in general. To a point!

there’s not a little PT Barnum in successful publishers. You gotta pay your authors though, that’s not something to shrug off as just weird publishing shit.

Excellent discussion of this very bind in @phoebebovy.bsky.social’s recent interview with @schraubd.bsky.social podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/d...

Language is funny like that. You gotta appreciate it and wonder at human invention or else you will drive yourself nuts

These are not new arguments, but they’re ones I’ve only otherwise heard from the laziest, least intellectually curious people I know. The host of this podcast is often reviled, and until recently I never quite understood why, but I’m coming around.

Coincidentally I think I’m going to have to unfollow David Graeber’s widow. This is vile in multiple ways.

I think I’ve lost that battle (asserting it’s not pejorative, or not necessarily so.) Groups are allowed to have names for other groups of people! Anyway, I respect you and have long enjoyed your posts. Hope I’m not coming off as belligerent.

I know it has been co-opted by white nationalists in a terrifying way. But I don’t think we ought to accept that. In any case, it’s certainly not a word I have ever used with regularity. It angers me to see our language misrepresented. Likewise I don’t think shiksa is necessarily pejorative.

I hear you. I guess I’ve never seen it as a slur, despite the efforts of outsiders asserting that it is one. To me it’s a neutral term that can be used in a derogatory way, if that’s the intention (again, context).

I generally am wary of non-Jews using the word, but it very much depends on context and this seems like a mild good-natured, good-faith joke, and so not objectionable. (Just my personal opinion of course!)

I’ve never felt the slightest inclination to watch one, so I will endorse this post! 🦕 🥚

I will say that the dem candidates really are banding together before ranked-choice voting. It’s curious to see candidates cooperate towards a goal.
