Hey boys, supper's on me, our record just went aluminum

I prefer to think of Dallas BBQ as the place Danish parents left their baby in a stroller outside of while they ate and were arrested for negligence. Apparently this is common practice in Denmark. We Americans were clutching our pearls however. Never forget! www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017...

Next time I get a call from a Mamdani volunteer, I think I’ll tell them I’m Undeclared. Hell, maybe I’ll #leaveitblank. The city to go to hell in a handbasket but won’t I feel righteous.

Every once in a while I remember that I know someone whose eye doctor went to prison for a scam involving krugerrands. Never bothered to look it up until this post jogged my memory nypost.com/2000/03/12/o...

Remember when this art was ubiquitous? I’ll cop to having a postcard of one of these in my bulletin board.

I’ve judged all dealings with writers by Edmund White, who couldn’t have been more charming to a green assistant, or more professional with everyone. The Farewell Symphony is a great novel. RIP a brilliant ‘public-library intellectual’ (as he described himself more than once).

“I don’t support the violent act but… mayyyyybe they had it coming?” May you never know a moment’s peace.

A polite reminder that @libro.fm exists, is an indie, allows you to own for life, and most importantly let's you directly support your local indie bookstore by not using any AI and giving a portion of each purchase to the store of your choosing

Not to excuse this particular publisher but many publishing companies have engaged in some of the shenanigans described in this thread. I think old publishing was probably more like this than the newer corporatized firms. I’ve heard stories about Jason Epstein at the old Random House for instance…

So pleased to see a favorite account from Twitter, @100yearsagonews.bsky.social, here.

Imagine getting cancelled for being a cranky old broad. Justice for cranky old broads! (disclaimer: I have not yet read the original profile)

This is why I have my phone in bed

Yesterday there was a kerfuffle (or so it seemed to me) around the exit at the Dekalb station. Turns out there were teenage boys at the top of the stairs throwing gummi bears to friends at the bottom, who were trying to catch the candy in their mouths. Dangerous stuff.

palate cleanser for those who aren't afraid of a bit of sublime corniness (in the form of Jakob Dylan and Norah Jones) tidal.com/browse/track...

Signing this is a no-brainer. My fellow Jews, add your voices! www.foodaidforgaza.org/signers

What’s a book cover (or covers) that’s burned itself into your brain? The 1973 Narnia covers 🩶

I wish instead of being mad all the time I could be more like my parents were - just disappointed.

stupid? do i want to smoke? no. do i want to watch a deer or a duck smoke? you bet.

“Diana the fascist, Jessica the communist, Unity the Hitler-lover, Nancy the novelist, Deborah the duchess and Pamela the unobtrusive poultry connoisseur” You mean "Nancy the novelist and biographer."

I just listened to a podcast episode in which the host and guest blithely admit to cheating in college and high school. I mean we had to! They weren’t teaching us properly! And anyway, there’s no focus on learning, it’s all on getting good grades in order to get a good job! It’s the culture’s fault!

have *you* listened to Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris's cover of "After the Goldrush" recently?? tidal.com/browse/track...

I stress that this was the Minister for Multicultural Affairs.
