“Triple dipper” and “baby back ribs” have the same number of syllables. Chili’s should redo the classic jingle but starring this generation’s icon. 🎶 Chiliiiiii’s triple dipper 🎶

I haven’t seen any of the Mission Impossible movies (a cultural blind spot of mine) but I’m listening to a pod review of the latest one. The plot summary is what I must sound like when I’m talking about comics lol. A poison pill, the cruciform key, a doomsday clock. I gotta get into this franchise

I know I’m washed cause every time one of the LiMu emu ads plays, I am compelled to say “and Doug” exactly in sync with the ad. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction youtu.be/aLI3suPerTg?...

Bought my PAX West ticket today. Haven’t been to PAX, a comic con, or fan expo in years. Curious to see how things have changed

Asian with a Spanish last name? I know what you are

I love when a food is contextually exemplary. A hot dog? Nice. A hit dog at a baseball game? Now we’re talking. A hot dog at 2am? There’s never been anything more delicious

I entered this game lightly rooting for the Knicks cause the league is fun when they’re good but I fear Hali has turned me

Haliburton is often corny but quickly becoming an all time NBA heel

When I was a teen, I never thought I’d see the day that people wear chunky Y2K running shoes as fashion or that basketball shoes from the 80s would be welcome in office settings. Makes me wonder what shoes and sneakers of today will come back around in a couple decades in unexpected contexts. Hokas?

Kind of a bummer that “root beer” won out over “sarsaparilla”. Sarsaparilla is more descriptive (a drink with its main flavors derived from the sarsaparilla plant) and much more fun to say. Root beer sounds kinda gross when you take the two words at face value.

Striking workers in Washington State will now get unemployment from the state. A bill giving workers out on strike 6 weeks of unemployment insurance was just signed into law after passing both chambers. Workers affected by employer lockouts will also benefit from the new law.

Still very into the idea of getting a top tier defensive wing like Herb Jones and a defensive anchor/lob threat like Kessler. This deal would need some massaging but this is how high LA should be aiming this offseason even with limited assets

For as much as I love the X-Men and ranking things, you know what’s not fun? Ranking the X-Men movies. There’s maybe three good ones

Lot of people crediting the harsher cap rules for more parity in the NBA but I think it really is as simple as role players being better, more efficient players than previous eras. They shoot better, they run more, they defend better. The floor was raised and the ceiling didn’t get higher.

Asking a people pleasing AI to be your friend or your therapist is deeply disturbing behavior and people are on Al Gore’s internet bragging about it. He didn’t connect a series of tubes for this

The bottom 60% of US households can’t afford “minimal quality of life” www.cbsnews.com/news/cost-of...

I think one of the things that’s made me lean into movie fandom is that the conversation around them is slower/more evergreen than TV but faster than books. There’s the opening weekend discourse but then there’s new people watching something for the first time even decades later.

If culture didn’t move so damn fast we’d all still gleefully be saying “Piper noOooOo” to each other

People like to complain about the later gen Pokémon designs, but the real design choices that hurt the franchise were two things: Moving to untextured 3D models instead of 2D sprites and the emphasis on shiny Pokémon (for every good one there’s 50 bad/neutral).

Megalopolis at the bar is wiiild

Hunger Games is an elite bar movie

Lynx certainly look like title favorites

The midrange is alive and well in Dallas

Steve is a great follow if you’re a basketball fan, but essential if you’re a WNBA fan

Wings defense is going to be very fun to watch this season. I knew Carrington would bring it but the whole team is fighting on the perimeter

Ion scorebug was stuck on 2-0 until the actual score was 5-4. They find ways to remind you the league isn’t quite ready for its moment yet…

Some WNBA predictions before the season tips off: MVP: Napheesa Collier DPOY: A’ja Wilson ROY: Paige Bueckers Champs: Minnesota Lynx Most improved team: LA Sparks Biggest drop: Connecticut Sun

The podcast listening experience on YouTube is terrible. Every once in a while I give it a shot again cause so many places really push their video and it sucks. Jump scare midroll ads and stationary cameras in studios that all kinda look the same

What do we gain from these 3.5 year long presidential campaigns? It’s an excuse to fundraise and appeal to insiders more than anything. Reps ran for years and then fizzled out anyway (Desantis et al). Dems doing the same this cycle. Go do your job and campaign when voters actually tune in

The Dems-Hogg situation is disappointing, but unsurprising because this era has seen a marked decline in party affiliation despite a large pool of reliable “independent” voters who vote the party ticket anyway. Where’s Hogg’s backup? The unhappy, left-leaning voters? Outside the party

The Ironheart suit looks sick. May Riri end the scourge that is nanotech helmets in the MCU

Interesting time to put a tough interview and public accountability at the center of your blockbuster trailer youtu.be/Ox8ZLF6cGM0?...

The HBO Max situation is hilarious but understandable. Naming things is hard. That’s why I’m starting my consultancy that names things. That’s all we do. Nick Named It, LLC. Hire me

Big Tex goes Corporate Memphis

Of the top five NBA players right now, none of them were #1 picks. Draft better. I don’t get why people want to reward perennially bad teams with top picks. They historically don’t don’t draft well anyway and don’t develop top talent. Keep the lottery random. Don’t weight it towards losers

No one endured a more cursed season than Mavs fans. I’m so happy for them

My galaxy-brained take is that getting the number one pick actually makes it _more_ feasible to fire Nico Harrison. We all know the pick is Flagg. Any GM would pick him. Fire Nico and kickstart the new era with a new face of the franchise and new management

No fuckin way

The current CBA prohibits them from doing so. That’s why the negotiations going on right now are so important. It’s been evident — for years, really — that 12 just isn’t enough. Most teams don’t even carry 12. They carry the minimum of 11.
