There is no better argument for the FDA than the wellness industry, which demonstrates that given the opportunity folks would sell cancer drugs & childhood vaccines with exactly the same credibility that they sell weight loss pills & hair restoration potions

It really is this simple. #TransRightsAreHumanRights

The US federal government was actually less wasteful than most big companies and other large organizations, not least because government had an amazing asset: highly experienced, educated, knowledgeable, talented people choosing public service when they could make a lot more in the private sector.

The second Obama became president with a supermajority the Republicans pulled every lever they could to successfully grind everything to a halt. And they were also performing concern about a fascist takeover but theirs was fake

The Economist had a cover illustration of a walker with a Presidential seal, which ableist af image but cover story was about Biden’s age. Coverage was everywhere.

Your School House Rock moment......

NEW: The Great Lakes hold 95% of all the surface freshwater in the United States. Severe cuts have decimated the NOAA Great Lakes lab. Scientists worry they’ve lost the ability to protect the public from toxic algal blooms, which can kill animals and sicken people. My story for @propublica.org

I’m old enough to remember when Charles Schumer promised us that he’d help mobilize a mass resistance if Trump ignored a Supreme Court decision.

This is such a critical point. Our bad model of how science progresses is compounded by our individualistic outlook. We love the idea of individual genius. The infrastructure (of all kinds) required to do science AND to turn the collective findings over time into anything implementable is huge.

The submerged state.

Allow me to address the elephant in the room: The decades-long outsourcing of domestic manufacturing to China was not an insidious Chinese conspiracy for dominance but the greedy strategy of the American ruling class to explode its profit margins by exploiting global inequality.

Was just listening to something that made the interesting point that Pope Francis wasn’t speaking out on immigrants and the need to treat them well because he was progressive but because he was a theological conservative who believed people should follow scripture where it told everyone to do that

Fuck RFK Jr for his beliefs generally but especially fuck him for claiming to care about anyone’s health but shrugging his shoulders at this so he can complain about autism some more

The entirety of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health was wiped out last night in a form letter sent by RFK Jr. NIOSH is an agency in the CDC that investigates workplace hazards and finds solutions. It protects workers, so it’s gone. Even firefighters.

The Attorney General of the United States gushing on camera that the President has saved two-thirds of the entire population of America from dying of a fentanyl overdose was a gut-churning lurch towards the absurd flattery lavished on personality-cult dictators by fawning subordinates.

I keep thinking about how fucked up Trump crushing the tarriff price tagging plans on Amazon is. The president just yelled at a CEO for not lying to consumers.

This is getting overlooked: Trump *openly admitted* he hasn't even asked Bukele to return Abrego Garcia, claiming *his lawyers haven't said he has to.* Either Trump is knowingly flouting SCOTUS or his lawyers have deceived him. Exchange w/ @speechboy71.bsky.social: newrepublic.com/article/1945...

I love adding this one data point to economic charts. It works every time.

Dear god let this man cook.

To mark Trump’s first 100 days, I thought it might be fun to look at all the impeachment articles against presidents and figure out how many he has already matched or surpassed. Spoiler: It wasn't fun. And the answer is pretty much all of them. @thebulwark.com www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-is-m...

Congress is back from recess after the weekend. Will anyone file articles of impeachment for expelling a U.S. citizen who is 4 years old and also has cancer.

I check the little screen, I check the big screen, I check the watch screen, I check the tablet screen. I check the screen that reminds me of the good times, I check the screen that reminds me of the better times.

China Foreign Ministry spox overnight: “Let me make it clear one more time – China and the US are not engaged in any consultation or negotiation on tariffs.” Treasury Secretary Bessent on CNBC just now: *BESSENT: ALL ASPECTS OF GOVERNMENT IN CONTACT WITH CHINA Who you gunna believe?

New York Times reporters taking Trump administration sources at their word and assuming their info is accurate—ie that Trump officials are neither lying nor mistaken—is a major error, and explains a lot. “But the anti-science liars, insisting upon anonymity, told me…” should not persuade an editor.

In previous administrations, this would have been an impeachable scandal.

Fully on board with dems running for office promising to reinstate fired federal employees and jail this administration’s various criminals, but let’s go ahead and add “we will seize by eminent domain any national parkland sold to developers”

I forget who made this point already this morning but guys, it's *good* if the word "deportation" becomes associated in voters' minds with US citizen pediatric cancer patients. stop correcting the headlines.

This is exceptionally well reported: in case after case Trump has surrendered long time US interests to favor Russia and gained nothing in return. When you put it all together it a staggering surrender. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/26/u...

reporting on this has really got to get better about communicating the magnitude of the breach here. if you read the nyt article with minimal context, you would have no sense that this was watergate-level impeachable misconduct

Walz: Here in Minnesota, freedom means several things. It means freedom from hunger and poverty. That means freedom to worship or not. It means the freedom to be who you are anyway you choose, and that is a birthright..

"So who voted for this? I personally don't remember Donald Trump's campaign promise to cut breast cancer research and to make menopause harder for American women,” says Chris Hayes on the Trump admin gutting the first and largest women’s health study.

Walz: If you say you love freedom but you don't believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love is not freedom, it is privilege.

Maybe this is naive but I think it's better as a strategic (let alone moral) matter to make a public stand on principle as opposed to holding your breath on every issue until David Shor goes on a podcast and tells you what to do

"The staff of a program that helps millions of poor families keep the electricity on, in part so that babies don’t die from extreme heat or cold, have all been fired. The federal office that oversees the enforcement of child support payments has been hollowed out."

Well the NIH has cancelled the Women's Health Initiative, the largest study of women in history It has been running continuously since 1991 and has provided massive key knowledge about diseases in women Unreal www.science.org/content/arti...

Bad for school kids, bad for farmers, and sure as hell won’t “make America healthy again.”

RFK Jr.’s aunt Rosemary Kennedy was institutionalized and kept away from the family. Her own father never visited and her mother didn’t see her for 20 years. That might explain why Mr. Kennedy didn’t hear these terms when he was a kid.

Cannot be stated enough that Donald Trump sued “60 Minutes” based on the false claim that they didn’t publish a problematic answer Kamala Harris gave to a question about Israel. Of course, the truth is they DID publish the answer and the answer was also totally fine. Textbook frivolous lawsuit.

my plan to get people to start having more kids? make climate change worse. abolish the department of education. also milk is poison
