It's not a hot take I necessarily subscribe to (unlike the fact that I think the Lexus LC looks repellent), but why not start the weekend with a little spice? ๐

Hot take: Porsche should've put all their eggs in the 928 basket and *actually* killed the 911.

"It's a lifestyle" or something?
I don't really get it either.

The original no-grille fascia, or the tacked-on 1993+ one? I loved the original.

The Facehugger intake manifold never disappoints.

Ha! True. Though I certainly wouldn't turn down an F355 if someone gave one to me.

It just seems more...humble? Less flamboyant? More of a "workaday Ferrari," if that makes sense.
And yes, I'd be wrenching on it myself.

Am I the only one who would rather have a 348 than an F355?

Yep; I'm easily into double digits on that one.

The American brain cannot comprehend a Mercedes badge on the grille of this vehicle.

Wouldn't be the first Sonic-F1 connection...

Nice pickup! I think I have that one. There's nothing like an atmospheric soundtrack played with the texture of vinyl.

Doesn't it, though? Next best thing to "original owner" since the entire history of the car will be known, at least in theory.

Is there something wrong with "family-owned?" My Z has been in the family since new.

Hot take: Reality Bites is GenX's St. Elmo's Fire. A bunch of awful people doing stupid things.

Dustbuster. Is this even a question?

I get it too. It was my daily driver, though, so I did need Bluetooth, and I did try to strike a balance. The car isn't a weekends-only show queen. And I don't think the headunit looked too tacky. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Only $100 (I sold it to him for $4,800). But he put stock wheels back on, and I don't know if he's including the 17" NC Miata wheels (he should!).
He was also obsessed with finding an OEM headunit for some reason, when the one I installed fit the interior and was a huge upgrade. Weird.

I mostly follow it (and the NHL) for my son. He loves it, and it gives us some common ground to discuss. Otherwise yeah, college basketball is king.

It did. The reflection mapping was off under the rear whale-tail spoiler, though. Looked a little goofy.

Eh, agree to disagree. I think he has good insights, about Ep.1 in particular in terms of explaining WHY that movie didn't sit right with us, even though we really wanted to like it when it came out. As for his voice, yeah it's annoying, but that's kind of the point. It's his schtick. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

What WAS the last car to get lighter as part of a refresh? ND Miata is the last one I can think of.
comment in response to

Yep; that was Peak LS400 for me as well. Beautiful, wonderful cars. Not a big fan of the "detached headlight" refresh in '98, but still a great car.

Remember in the mid-'90s when Lexus trimmed ~200lbs out of the LS400 (!) to get its weight down to the 3,600 range?
Good times.

I don't even want to see the latest 3-series (whatever the hell its internal model code is) next to an E21 or E30...

Yes, but is it giving off...Mansory energy? ๐ฌ
comment in response to

Yes we got the 6-speed 850 for a few years, until 94 or so I think. And we got the 840, but it was auto-only throughout its run.
In theory, the 6-speed from an E34 or E39 540 application could be swapped into an 840, but it would take a little doing.

Those are the 850CSi mirrors & front valence, IIRC.
Really wish we had gotten the 840Ci + stickshift over here.

I've always maintained that 90% of traffic jams simply would not occur if people knew how to merge properly (hint: speed up!).
