A translation is both the work of the original author and the translator. The author wrote the story, while the translator wrote the words readers read to experience the story. If you enjoyed a translated novel it's thanks to the translator. artreview.com/the-philosop...

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

For Aussies: it's hard to find diphenhydramine here but most chemists stock promethazine. Ask for Phenergan 25mg. It's S3 (pharmacist only) -- just say your GP rec'ed it for allergies/travel sickness if they ask. (They usually don't.) For diphenhydramine try Snuzaid, also S3. Only 10 per pack tho.

pedant time: i desperately need people to stop describing war of the lions' loc as "shakespearean" or "faux-shakespeare" it's elevated diction. medieval fantasy with elevated diction. shakespeare wrote in a variety of styles and everything that uses elevated diction is not shakespeare.

After teaching translation for a few years now, my best advice to would-be translators is to get better at writing in English. The majority of issues I see in my students' work are not TL-specific problems like misunderstanding the source text, but basic English writing errors.
