Yes! I'm a dedicated listener of Strong Towns among many other urbanist podcasts that focus on building community and equity in our communities. I believe in properly funding public transit, investing in safe multimodal infrastructure, and encouraging people to get involved in their communities.

That's asking a whole province full of disabled people to apply for grant money for you. That's just evil.

That's insane.

It is! That's an insane thing to do and feels money-laundery-ish.

literally the only reason I changed was because I could drop eight letters and keep my initials. The time saved on signatures alone was almost worth the paperwork headache.

am currently collecting signatures! The forms are at the Taproom and available for folks to add their names! Thanks so much!

What they should do: Once he settles into his speech, stand up and turn their backs on Trump. Then file out of the room. Host a press conference on the steps to congress at the same time as the SOTU, and compete openly for air-time. Don't give him the audience he craves.

She was too busy dodging scandals and vacationing in Panama to formulate a coherent response. They only know how to react, not plan.

The YWCA - Downtown on 8th st and 6 ave, not the YMCA! And yes, the flex space is easy to find.

kinda wild to see psychological abuse levelled against entire nations by 1 administration. We will never be American. I will die on that hill, proudly.

I wish voting was compulsory like it is in other democracies. Didn't vote? Here's a fine. Didn't vote? Sorry, you can't register your vehicle. Didn't vote? Property taxes have gone up. Voting and participating in elections is the ONE requirement for a functioning democracy.

The trick is that hindsight is 20/20. It LOOKS like people were super competent (sometimes, not usually) because it's easy to look back and see how things worked out. Most folks don't realize that most historical ppl (like modern ones) are literally throwing shit at walls to see what sticks.

the head popping up killed me. Thanks for the giggles!

this is getting real bad. When will the govt fund public healthcare properly so these things don't happen?

you can also use a food processor to turn them into flour and add that to your baking, which has all the benefits of lentils! My MIL does this and you can't taste them. They're delicious!

am in a deep freeze in Canada at the moment, and am using the time to plan an intensive garden overhaul. Going to finally get rid of 2/3rds of my lawn area and convert to food production because I'm not confident in future stability.

billionaires are the result of a failed taxation system. There are no ethical or good billionaires. All billionaires are simply mentally-ill hoarders with empathy deficiencies.

just scoped your profile, I think we'll get along! Cheers mate!

I've refused to travel to the US or through it since 2016. I don't have an amazon account since 2016, and I focus on supporting local 100% of the time. It's not as hard as folks think: just get used to thrifting and buying second-hand, or from boutiques.

even legalizing ADU (additional dwelling units) like carriage houses etc on larger lots would make housing easier to build in the City. Edmonton has a great ADU program that they adopted in 2020.

My experience is much the same. Parking is always plentiful.

according to some folks here, single family development is the ONLY way to develop. Which is insane, and the most fiscally irresponsible development pattern, which I don't think most folks get. A good education in urban planning is required for the whole city it seems.

Meanwhile, we're desperate for any kind of housing density in the Warehouse district so we have folks patronizing our businesses instead of just driving through either to the mall or the Mayor Magrath Strip Malls. FFS.

Only 15% of residences in the proposed sites will cater to low-income. The rest will be rented at market rate. When broken down logically, their position makes literally no sense and is (personally) mind-boggling. I hope they change tune soon+ move forward with welcoming their new neighbours. Yikes.

There are boosters and there are bashers. Disappointed to see them take the Basher approach. Bad call London Road Market.

fucksakes. All due to parking!? I literally stood up at the same public meeting and talked about how I'm excited for these projects that put 200 hungry mouths on LRM's doorstep (where do they think the folks living in these buildings will get their groceries?) and walking distance of my place.

it's the excuse he's using, but it's not the reason. He's trying to economically crush us so he can roll in and absorb Canada. His aim is manifest destiny, and this is just a pitiful excuse.

I struggle with this for other subjects; have come to the conclusion that the best we can hope to do is affect only that we can control. Talked to 1 person about disability inclusion today? That's a heckin' win, because they're now thinking about it. Narrow your focus and remember you're amazing.
