*yes there are many that don’t have this blind spot.

This has become a blind spot (*not for all) since “the left”, or dems, became urban/educated, what have you. For many of us, yeah, a bus pass pales into insignificance against daily life. But I would urge that we not forget that the role of what we believe is to make lives better using policy.

Well, there’s that one case about prison guards on strike while in dorm housing. That should provide some guidance…

Idk if I’ve read them all but it’s his history that awes me. He’s able to put centuries into a[n admittedly long] book - and it makes sense!

Love Michener’s scope and breadth. Read them back as a precocious youth (have redone Chesapeake and Hawaii several times) so my memory may be off, but I do recall him going on at some length…😆. Not like Mailer tho🧐

I’ll check those out. In terms of use of language, my two all time favorites are Bernard DeVoto (history of the American west) and Evelyn Waugh

I mean, the Romans did have a crisis of the third century, which would comport with our own. Are you thinking there’s an Aurelian out there to help us?

I mean, they could just send a guy out on the balcony and say “Habemus Corpum”?

True that, but the firing is more likely because he testified yesterday to congress that it’s not “in the best interests of the American people to eliminate” FEMA…

I can’t hear or think about that song without the image of Michael Madsen dancing around with a razor in his hand

100% agree; I wish the house would wise up and revisit the vote that put Connolly in the chair of oversight instead of AOC.

Well, it did teach them in ‘20. Apparently however American polity has a fuckin’ short memory and wanted to lick the ice-pole once more🤷‍♂️

“Fudge, leave it. Fudge, drop the fucking stick” is kinda like a metaphor for our times

Another one is putting on a pot of water when you walk in. By the time you’re changed, something comes to mind and the water will be helpful

Does this include not having to store the odd/heavy ones in the oven? ‘Cause I’m down with not having to move the Dutch oven and griddle every time I want to use the oven…

The peacemaker and the 1911 use different rounds (.45 long colt vs acp) and, at least to me, feel very different. The 1911 as a semi auto absorbs recoil and the handle angle is way easier on my wrist. There’s a reason the army used it for 75 years(!). Might be worth a(nother) try!

As a giants fan, I am aware of this.

Agreed, but there are plenty (see screenshot of just one I found on this thread). I find it along the lines of the purity test types, self defeating

No I don’t there are many who think he did a good job. It’s pretty clear he was in the wrong place/wrong time and couldn’t rise to the occasion. He’s a jurist at heart, not a prosecutor, and that proved fatal. That said, those saying he’s scum and a traitor are merely the other side of trump’s card
