The fact they chose California as the flash point is also an indicator that they don't think these things through LA has like 4M+ people. Sending every single ICE officer is ~20K, LAPD is 9K, LASD is 10K. Going in at 100:1 manpower – leaving zero bodies for literally anything else – is foolish 1/

I would say that using the crime-fraud exception to pierce attorney- client privilege **against the government** is unprecedented, but it already happened with Trump's lawyers a few years ago.

"less lethals" can and will kill people. this is what we are up against.

Defense attorneys see early signs of an uptick in white collar prosecutions under new Massachusetts U.S. Attorney Leah Foley, though depleted resources in the Boston office and a focus on immigration could limit the number of high-profile cases. www.law360.com/artic...

BREAKING: A federal judge approves $2.8 billion antitrust settlement, clearing the way for U.S. colleges to pay millions to their athletes.

NEW: Trump Has Options to Punish Musk Even if His Federal Contracts Continue The president could tighten federal oversight of the tech titan’s businesses, even if heavy reliance by the Pentagon and NASA on them makes terminating Mr. Musk’s contracts less feasible. nyti.ms/4kNM7lg

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil complaint alleging IT workers from North Korea evaded U.S. sanctions and accumulated millions in cryptocurrency for the benefit of the North Korean government. www.law360.com/artic...

For ambitious people in China, an economic slowdown and intense competition mean it’s sometimes easier to find success in African countries.

NEW: In the case over Trump's unconstitutional order targeting the WilmerHale law firm, WilmerHale's lawyers at Clement & Murphy had to go back to court, asking the court to amend its judgment because DOJ is being appallingly intransigent. DOJ's Richard Lawson is really skating on thin ice here.

The Defamation League, imo

be sure to stick around until the 33rd paragraph, where you will learn this right-wing grifter posted child sexual abuse images and that media coverage of his post made him sad (you will not hear from any of his critics)

It is entirely possible that before all is said and done Musk's attack on USAID will have resulted in more deaths than the Holocaust

Feel like the “anti” part of Anti-Defamation League is increasingly superfluous

What a wildly embarrassing filing.

NEW at SCOTUS: two emergency docket wins for Trump. One gives DOGE access to Social Security files. The second halts a FOIA request for info into DOGE’s operations for now. The three Dem appointees dissent in each.

Tired: Merits rulings on Thursdays at 10am. Wired: Shadow docket orders on Fridays at 4pm.

"300 fighters, including untrained drug dealers, thieves, murderers, and radicals, cannot overpower Hamas’ 30,000 militants. Realities on the ground indicate a far more nefarious scheme: those gangs have become a proxy used to advance Israel’s genocide, ethnic cleansing, and starvation policies"

NEW: Louisiana has a wild system: Officials known as justices of the peace get to decide evictions, and they can *pad their own salaries* with the eviction fees. Critics have filed a lawsuit trying to strike down a system that they stress incentivizes these court officials to grant evictions.

BREAKING: SCOTUS conservatives give DOGE access to Social Security records, overruling lower courts. All three Democratic appointees would reject the Trump administration’s request.

JUST IN: A federal appeals court has agreed to let Trump ban the AP from the Oval Office again, a 2-1 ruling that blocked a lower (Trump-appointed) judge’s ruling that the content-based ban violated the constitution.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court allows DOGE team to access Social Security systems with personal data on millions of Americans for now.

The arbitrary exercise of power against political opponents is the signature move of authoritarian leaders

Definitely sounds like a guy Dems should embrace www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/o...

Trump’s travel ban once sparked outcry—but “Trumpism is a kind of authoritarian autoimmune disease,” @adamserwer.bsky.social writes. It’s “been ravaging the American body politic for so long that there are fewer small-d democratic antibodies left to fight it.”

So the president is just nominating his little legal errand boys now

If you strip away the egos and shitposting, the Trump-Musk feud is really an argument over how comprehensively to screw over poor and working people—over how best to make our society a meaner, crueler, less equal, more savage place. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/1962...

The Trump administration is trying to get Senator Lindsey Graham to "significantly weaken his Russia-sanctions bill" while the White House seeks to patch up its relationship with Moscow, reports WSJ. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

A magistrate judge in Columbus, GA, has ordered discovery regarding the US-El Salvador detention deals for yet another Venezuelan sent to CECOT on 3/15. It's Jose Bastidas, who has no criminal record, per his atty. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

The Proud Boys are claiming various constitutional violations that are almost certain to fail because of the Supreme Court's evisceration of so-called "Bivens claims"

A Toronto businessman was charged with exporting electronic components to Russia in what authorities say is Canada's first prosecution for violating the country's sanctions on Moscow. He appears to be a key part of the supply chain for a drone used by Russia in its war on Ukraine.

note that this completely inverts the public justification for the deportation scheme. they claim they’re deporting criminals, but they deported Kilmar without knowledge of a crime, and now that they supposedly found one they’re bringing him BACK.

@sranderson.bsky.social‬ looks across several D.C. Circuit opinions on various U.S. Agency for Global Media and Voice of America suits to piece together a fuller picture of how the court views President Trump's attempt to dismantle the executive branch. www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-...

"The point is that both men start from the presumption that the U.S. government is an entirely corrupt enterprise, with the president in a position to hand out personal favors or engage in personal acts of vengeance." paulkrugman.substack.com/p/wake-up-an...

Trump’s redefinition of the US imperial role is emboldening officials to distinguish US interests from Israeli ones—and freeing European govts to challenge the Jewish state. @peterbeinart.bsky.social writes about the end of unconditional Western support for Israel. jewishcurrents.org/the-era-of-u...
