Because for MAGAs, every scientific consensus is a “scientific consensus” fabricated by elites.

Right, it essentially argues that due process is reserved for favored classes of people. I rewatched ‘Unforgiven’ last night and this is illustrated well in the opening scene. (Regular boys making a mistake vs. whores.)

Well, those facts years ago resulted in a court order withholding his deportation. This was during the first Trump administration, and the court order was not challenged. So deporting him now without further proceedings is a violation of due process.

Withdrawn! I misremembered the case. Thanks.

Not a Scalia fan by any means but that isn’t what he said.

She’s forgetting that Ernesto Miranda was an absolutely horrible human being. It isn’t about having a “poster child”, it’s about having procedures that protect the rightly or wrongly accused and give society confidence in the system.

I mean, who writes like that? Do schools of public policy have courses in Fascist Writing now?

Actually they’ve been pretending it didn’t happen — which has been easy given that the media have been reporting it as “thousands” of protesters nationwide instead of 100’s of thousands or over a million.

Fair point to the extent it applies to anyone who actually cried wolf. But it isn’t crying wolf if I’ve been saying, since the Brooks Brothers Riot, “hey, the right wing is pushing us toward fascism!” It’s being right that this has now come to be.

Remember that Alexei Navalny was charged with terrorism based on comments his associates made.

That’s because they signed frivolous pleadings, engaged in harassment/intimidation, and otherwise violated legal ethics.

“Radical transparency” means you have to be a radical to believe there’s transparency.

Wasn’t there supposed to be an effort to get this enforced at the federal level to keep him off the general?

Thanks to Meta’s pro-diversity policies, which are now going away. about.fb.com/news/2022/07...

Again, we aren’t talking about the roster of players. Nobody is talking about that. A sports team needs its leadership, front office, public relations and employees generally to look like it’s fan base and community. That’s the correct analogy to Meta.
comment in response to post
Meta isn’t like the roster of a sports team, it’s like a sports team as an organization. And sports teams justifiably pay attention to diverse hiring policies.

To mean only white Christian males? I doubt it.

Take the time to read my comment - I’m not talking about the way normal people use the term.
comment in response to post
Um, you do realize I’m talking about the way Hegseth uses the term, not the way normal people do, right?
comment in response to post
You’re right. Just stop resisting, Hegseth is totally normal and we will all be okay [shrugs]
comment in response to post
Yes - and it would be naive to think he meant it in the same way Hegseth does.

Name another SecDef who has used it in that way.
comment in response to post
lol it’s new coming from a potential nominee for SecDef…
comment in response to post
But the use of the term to denote officers and enlisted men who are white and Christian? That’s what is new.
comment in response to post
Can confirm. BTW where do I get one of these

Any such evidence was already factored into the plea negotiations, and some got lesser offenses and reduced sentences as a result. In other words, everyone got what they deserved.
