An Australian wattle to brighten your day

Will the re-elected Labor government give priority to our environment? This what voters want! Approving the extension of the northwest shelf gas for 50 years, and further clearing of jarrah forest for mining are not! theconversation.com/5-things-we-...

An excellent article with an outside view, of the West Australian unique Jarrah forest, and the peril it faces by continued expansion by Alcoa in a changing climate. Rehabilitation over many years has not managed to replace a forest ecosystem. It's a slow death apps.publicsource.org/alcoa-mines-...

'Substandard' rehabilitation efforts after clearing Jarrah forest for aluminium mining should be a sound reason not to grant expansion of clearing, diminishing forest vulnerable to drying climate. Replanting trees is not the same as the complex ecosystem that is lost. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05...

They want you to think that protecting nature will make us all poorer, sicker and sadder. It's a lie - as Costa Rica proves. The Central American country’s extraordinary push to protect its rainforests and nature made its people happier, healthier and wealthier. Here’s how. 🧵

He says it so clearly. We need to change our priorities.

The NDIA are removing vital supports while eligibility is reassessed, with poor communication. Now a review criticises their actions. Shades of #Robodebt. It's hugely stressful for participants, #ndia need to do much better for the vulnerable! It's their job! www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

It feels awfully like more of the same with the changes to the #ndis. All without much input from participants, overbearing uncaring bureaucracy removing supports. Not fair. Open letter to the NDIA regarding procedural fairness in NDIS eligibility reassessments open.substack.com/pub/leakylif...

Poor Bali is inundated by plastic rubbish this time of year. It's time to stop treating our oceans as bottomless rubbish dumps and drastically cut back our plastic consumption. Anything produced needs its whole life cycle sorted - reused, recycled . Laws for plastics. www.news.com.au/travel/desti...

Julia Baird talks about grace in the US where public figures set a tone where denigration and abuse are acceptable, where kindness and civility are absent. Yet as Julia notices, all around were acts of kindness and care, same in most our lives. www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...

Nothing better on a hot day than to watch the sunset at the beach with a friendly cruisy crowd

I wrote a blog about meeting #michaelleunig at a Bali Writers Festival a few years ago. There were a number of obstacles for a woman with disabilities and with the Bali traffic but the end made all the effort so worthwhile. wordpress.com/post/littleb...

The WA govt was elected on an environmental ticket (stopping Roe 8 highway through wetlands) but it was only for votes. Let's cook the planet with 50 yrs more gas! www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...
