Bodily autonomy is a human right. Transness isn't a disease that needs to be cured. We're a normal part of the spectrum that is the human condition. And we deserve to have the final say over our own bodies - not just because of the harm if we don't, but because they belong to us and not the state.

Lenacapavir approved by FDA - this is great news!

What are some good orgs for trans youth that could use some donations on this awful day? Reply below.

CLARIFICATION : The Trevor Project's hotline will still be live. But basically this means LGBTQ people can no longer be connected to it through the US national 988 suicide prevention hotline. They will need to be contacted DIRECTLY So spread this around They can be texted. They can be called.

Having puberty blockers as a youth would’ve been awesome. But I’m also very happy with who I am today and deeply love all the trans people in my life that didn’t have access to puberty blockers. So if you can’t access puberty blockers, I hope you’ll still grow up to be just like them—badasses.

Our latest preprint is now available doi.org/10.1101/2025...! Led by my postdoc, Luqiang Guo @luqiang.bsky.social, we determined a ~2.4 A resolution structure of the hantavirus glycoprotein tetramer on the surface of VLPs. Also determined structures of dimers of tetramers and Fab-bound tetramers.

Reporters covering Skrmetti: We have real people who will face real consequences from this decision available to talk to you today, as I'm sure does every other major LGBTQ+ org and the ACLU. There's no excuse to not include their voices in your story.

My latest for American Scientist Magazine helps give scientists the tools to fight back against politicized charges that our research is silly or pointless- tools that will work whether you’re asked “why are we funding this” from your asshole uncle at Thanksgiving or an asshole US Senator. 🧪🌎

ITS RELEASE DAY!!

Latest preprint from the lab, many years in the making! By combining #cryoEM with #AlphaFold3 modelling, we propose that norovirus NS3 forms a transmembrane RNA translocase. This could have big implications for our understanding of viral replication & assembly (🧵) www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Much greater than the sum of our parts! NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory is what happens when the world comes together to make something incredible. #RubinFirstLook on June 23 isn't just about Rubin's first images, it's also about who made those images possible! 🔭🧪 🧵

As we approach the week leading up to Juneteenth, it’s important to recognize the flag and symbols around the day, as well as taking the opportunity to renew the call for lineage-based reparations for not only chattel slavery, but the harms inflicted upon Black Americans post-emancipation.

Have you ever been frustrated by how hard it is to tinker with AlphaFold 3? Here's a (hopefully) simple repo to instal locally on laptop/single-GPU and a handy notebook to play around with! github.com/chaitjo/alph...

Our latest story describes the amazing evolutionary battle between malaria parasite and human. The parasite evolved RIFINs to bind inhibitory KIR receptors and suppress immune cell function while humans have activating KIR receptors to bind these RIFINs to kill parasites!

Spending a few days with intramural researcher at NIH has me thinking about the old Bell Labs, the storied research institute where major breakthroughs in physics, chemistry and mat sci (and associated @nobelprize.bsky.social awards) were made in the 70s-80s 1/n

A couple of months ago, I posted a checklist of things one could do to be useful in these days of rising fascism. Here’s Part Two of that list—more focused on ways to protect you and those in your tightest circles of care. Part One is embedded and also skeeted below.

Autophagy-lysosome pathways are known targets of intracellular bacteria – Ivan Đikić @idikic.bsky.social et al find Legionella uses phosphoribosyl-ubiquitination via SidE to alter autophagic SNAREs & create a bacteria-containing vacuole unable to fuse with lysosomes www.embopress.org/doi/full/10....

My message to Trump’s NIH Director? No one in America wants us to do LESS cancer research. No one is asking Trump to make it harder to cure Alzheimer's disease. Yet Trump is cutting all of this NOW and demanding an $18 BILLION cut to NIH next year. Not on my watch.

Hot take. The government isn’t subsidizing university budgets. Universities are lending subsidized expertise to research and development that contributes to the public good. It’s called partnership.

Very smart, high ROI initiative from the Spencer Foundation. Providing bridge funding for canceled NSF grants: 1) directs funds to projects already screened by a top-noch review process. 2) avoids imposing proposal prep costs on researchers. 3) ameliorates the disruption from GOP sabotage.

cis people who've like "studied trans people" still lack our insight into our own experience. this is super basic journalism stuff: folks who belong to some in-group have a different vantage, a different understanding of how the (persecuted minority community we're a part of) sees the world/media

Excited to unveil Boltz-2, our new model capable not only of predicting structures but also binding affinities! Boltz-2 is the first AI model to approach the performance of FEP simulations while being more than 1000x faster! All open-sourced under MIT license! A thread… 🤗🚀

THIS IS AMAZING! Researchers have made a SIGNIFICANT breakthrough in the quest for an HIV cure. By developing a method that enables the delivery of an mRNA-based therapy to make the virus VISIBLE WITHIN white blood cells, this approach paves the way to FULLY CLEAR the virus from the body. 🧪🧵⬇️
