That's fair. Maybe 'rake' or 'buck' ? I do frequently come across men described as socialites, but it's normally with reference to 19th or early 20th century figures, not contemporary. The word has become very gendered in recent years/decades.

T+2 or death.

No way he didn't have Grok 'write' that 'poem.'

Hmm, sounds possible, but unlikely. I'll give it a 'maybe.'

Woa, Tom, stay in your lane. You're from the Naval War College. Boats and ships, Tom; boats and ships.

I was wondering how important that line was. Thanks!
comment in response to post
Hmm, thanks. I guess the writing of both just seems extremely similar?

But isn't that part of the Insurrection Act, broadly speaking?

I'm not even a Washington fan, but the idea we shouldn't listen to him because he had slaves is like the epitome of Bluesky.

Even then, only like 1/3 of Americans supported the Revolution... It wasn't a mass popular movement.

I don't understand why you can't just say 'there is rioting and it is a valid and correct response to events taking place.' Sometimes rioting might be the right response! Not trying to pick on you, I'm just confused by people trying to say this isn't rioting when it looks like it is to many of us.

Historically true, of course, but not a law of nature. A lot has changed in America since 1968.

My guess is under 10 U.S.C. §§ 251-255, either § 252 or § 253, but that's just a guess until we hear more.
comment in response to post
My guess is Title 10 under Insurrection Act. It's codified at 10 U.S.C. §§ 251-255 if you want to read it yourself. See § 252 in particular.

I would also like to throw rotten fruit at him whilst he's in this cage. Such a twisted individual.

Insurrection Act time.

What are the terms for federalizing them under Title 10? I don't know enough about this topic, which seems rather important right now...

Newsome said they've nationalised the guard.

I look forward to your thoughts on this matter on your next podcast episode. Presumably it'll be with Stephen Miller?

As is frequently (always?) true, people have an easier time accepting conspiracy theories than reality.

Looks like it's different state-by-state. And it's illegal in California! law.justia.com/codes/califo...
comment in response to post
I truly don't understand how that is legal.

Wasn't this the awful story behind some of the NHS ransomware attacks a few years back, too?

The crunch onions! Ahh, I miss living in the Nordics. Such amazing hot dogs.

They look like paramilitary gorillas, not law enforcement officers.

Should just call it the 'America First' party.
comment in response to post
It's almost like they want Americans to be attacked and killed?

I'd just add that we can really see this with their apocalyptic eschatological views on AI. It really is straight out of some gnostic cult. Wish Umberto Eco was still alive to comment on it.
comment in response to post
How is that simply not malicious?
comment in response to post
Because these people simply aren't very smart. They might be great coders or engineers, but they're plainly unable to see the big picture or reflect on their actions and the actions of those around them.

Oh, these guys make amazingly batshit crazy drinks. They used to be in Denmark and were reasonably easy to find in London, but they moved to NYC a few years ago. I never tried the Doritos one but heard it was not as bad as it should be.

I don't think he had a lot going up there anyways, but drugs have definitely wrecked him. He is not a well man.
comment in response to post
Even a lot of liberals who hate him still buy into the myth that he's a genius. No idea why.
comment in response to post
Once again I am surprised by just how stupid he is. He really does not understand how many things work.
comment in response to post
That's actually not true, it's really bad history. Rooms for ladies literally meant a room where only ladies could eat. It's unfortunate that that story keeps going around.

Calvin Coolidge's son, yes - an infected blister from playing tennis =(

I've read so many biographies of people who died in WWI who ended up dying to a mosquito bite or a shaving cut. Not a great time to be alive.

As a Terminally Online Person, I'm both highly amused and severely depressed that people are becoming aware of Yarvin today.

It's really a placeholder phrase, not specific at all.

Axios often is just re-phrasing press releases. Hardly 'journalism', imo.

Technically, the belief part is part of the EMH, which is partially why I find the EMH worthless.

Wait, I just saw the clip now. He said his son wants to be a police officer and the hosts asked how his son feels about minorities and laughed. Tapper took this to mean that they were calling his son racist... What an idiot.
comment in response to post
I don't understand why people are mad at him for writing the book, but in all the press interviews for it he does seem like he's losing it à la Newsom.
comment in response to post
I think many people find it comforting to think that these are Proud Boys and not simply normal law enforcement officers.
