Local news reporter for CTV News Ottawa. Award-adjacent. Wrote a good headline in 2022. I do YouTube on the side where I play video games and talk about them LIKE A MAN. I speak French and early Simpsons.

If they're turning into live traffic, like on a red light or a T intersection, people are often checking to make sure it's clear while they're turning. I've seen it many times. Like, so many people have no idea I'm there. Sometimes their passenger has to tell them!

If I had a dollar for every time I've had to wait for a driver trying to turn right who HAS NO IDEA I'M TO THEIR RIGHT because they're looking left the entire time while turning, I could buy a car and do the same thing to other pedestrians!

What do we do? I frankly think cultivation of healthier offline lives and habits is important. When the regime is Extremely Online, it may be your civic duty to be so as well, but disconnecting can be an act of rebellion too.

Of course, in a world where we can all choose our own facts, sussing out the truth can be a lot harder. I’ve discussed this before.

Maybe those facts aren’t presented in the right (or left) way in the headline or the tweet or skeet or whatever is posted. Should the posts be better tailored to the respective audiences on the platforms they’re going? Or should they just present the facts?

While I can’t speak for everyone, I can say as one of those mainstream media MSM part-of-the-problem journalists, all I really do every day is report the daily news and I work with people whose first goal is to report the facts. I think that’s true for most reporters.

Of course, I’m really only going off the diehard partisans of each side. The loudest voices get the boosts from either algorithm or organic shares. But it’s common understanding now that there is no middle, or worse, the middle is the problem and they’re secretly on the OTHER SIDE.

Please note there is a reason I post here and not there.

Actually, the shooter is a Republican Christofascist anti-choice MAGA terrorist, you’ll learn here. But good luck convincing the power players on X, The Everything App of that.

If you head over to Bluesky, you’d learn that those very same mainstream news sources are ACTUALLY part of a vast far-right conspiracy to usher in fascism through intentional normalization and sanewashing. The same sources. The same stories with the same facts.
