Good news is that I dig the episode and I think the shorter running times is going to benefit my overall enjoyment in ways a half-hour sketch how might seem strained. Here's to a long, strange trip.

I saw Friendship yesterday and it's one of the funniest dark comedies I've seen at the theater in a hot minute.

As someone who really likes Friendship, I'm finally going to start I Think You Should Leave. I'm sure this'll end well.

Picnic on the Esplanade, Boston, 1973 by Nan Goldin, US photographer whose works spans many moments of intimacy #WomensArt

New today on the site! The Community issue continues, with @nataliesnotinit.bsky.social on love, laughter, connection, and community in the JACKASS franchise: "One of JACKASS's perpetual charms is that it feels like it can belong to anybody, that anybody can become a part of it."

There is only one big beautiful Bill.

For what it's worth, the world may be in a state of disarray, but I'm grateful to live in Long Beach if just because I've been able to see pride flags every few miles while driving around. Wish everywhere was more tolerant and welcoming.

Guess who's finally catching up on The Last of Us? On the final episode and enjoying it so far. Don't immediately love it as much as season one, but video game adaptation TV has come a long way since I was young.

I swear I keep seeing that picture while scrolling and getting confused why When Harry Met Sally... played Cannes almost 40 years after the fact.

nettles is so beautiful hayden keeps raising the bar 🥹🥹 god i love her

Seems unfair to list a song that came out less than an hour ago, but as a big Ethel Cain fan, I've been looking forward to new music and, thankfully, her first new single is getting me excited for more.

My initial impression is that Ethel Cain is as great as ever. Love having her melancholic songwriting back that feels denser and more retrospective. The atmospheric build is nicely matched with a pronounced country influence that makes me curious to see what direction the album's going in.

LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw Friendship this afternoon. It was my introduction to Tim Robinson's style, and I think he gives one of my favorite performances of the year. Here's a few thoughts on why it works so well for me.

The people I follow on Letterboxd really are in rare form tonight. Is it bad movie appreciation day and I just didn't get the memo?

Finally saw the trailer for The Materialists today and I love that somebody decided to make everything about it super 90s and even brought back the "trailer movie guy" aesthetic. Excited to see what Celine Song does next because Past Lives is one of my favorites in recent years.

I feel less offended because I was born in 1989. But yes, I remember my ancestors pointing over the dashboard to Polaris in the sky in the middle of the night to guide them all the way from Phoenix to somewhere around Barstow. Them were turbulent days, but it gave the gift of character.

I took HBO's "Which Deadwood Character Are you?" quiz! Click here to take the quiz.

The one downside of having it rain randomly for a few hours in So Cal is that we basically got alerts breaking over the news every 30 minutes from counties I don't even live near. I hope everyone is safe in San Bernardino. I'll say Long Beach is doing well.

Lots to choose from, but this one is so quick, sweet, and efficient. The IFC age was something special.

To those interested, my latest novel "Lava Lamp" is available in digital from major online retailers for $12. So excited to have this in the world. Hope you enjoy it.

This better be good. I'm running late on this.

Friendship was also the second A24 film I've seen in an empty auditorium. The other is Zola, and I think speaks to how much more I like messy people hanging out together more than exactly 100% of the population.

For those needing something to do tonight.

This is going to be great. While I try to catch every episode (batting 85%), events like the January wildfires have kept me from seeing certain ones. Another win for the best game show.

My favorite joke in Friendship was when he was like, "I enjoy listening to punk music!" and it was clearly Slipknot in the background. He doesn't even know what he likes.

Comedies are so back!

If I can hammer one thing home this Pride month it's that Pride has never ever been just one specific type of event for one specific type of gay. Stonewall was a violent uprising with a campy chorus line and the first CSLD march ended with people trying to break kissing records in Central Park.

The Weeknd wishes "Ever since I was a jit, I've been legit." sounded half as good as this.

Anyway, time to see if choosing to see a Tim Robinson movie from the third row was a good idea. Last movie I did this with was Kinds of Kindness, so it's a lovely bunch of coconuts.

Baltimore:

A fun part of going to the movies midweek is that it's slow enough for the employees to do other things. Just ordered popcorn while they were changing an overhead concession display in an amusing way.

Might screw around right now and go see Friendship on a Tuesday. Don't know much about Tim Robinson, but the name of his Netflix show makes me think I should leave for the theater soon.

New Ethel Cain tonight. Get hyped.

Official stance is that it's a very enjoyable record that finds her playing into the full creative control of her diva was. The best moments are sublime, transcendent and reflect the best of 2025 pop. Glad to see her eager to never stay in one lane for long.
