It's Friday night and I'm here signing off. Thanks to everyone who made the start of June a fun-filled time. I hope you're doing well and find time this weekend to do something that makes you happy. You deserve it. Take care.

Fuck ICE.

Been some good music listening over the past week. Looking forward to more this weekend.

I know that this June hasn't seemed all that gay yet for me, but just know that between Sunday and Monday, I'll be watching the Tony Awards AND seeing The Sparks play The Valkyries. Things are going to be just fine for me.

In this entry of Playing Favorites, I look at one of my favorite comedies of the year which finds the line between sympathetic and loathsome and explores it to brilliant ends.

Having quite the first week of June.

Catching up on news and learning that Etoile was canceled. I'm trying to give the show a chance, but to be honest it's definitely not the Palladino's most engaging work. I didn't expect to love it like Bunheads, but it is missing that little something special.

I just got home and I'm happy to announce that Life of Pi continues to be one of those stories that works very well in just about any medium. The stage version is fantastic and I love the puppetry and special effects. Really elevated the story into a dazzling evening.

Hope everyone has a fun night. I'm off to see Life of Pi on stage. Will let you know if it has a Bengal Tiger singing this song. youtu.be/avaSdC0QOUM?...

Forgot to mention, but it's another really good outing with Dixon. Love the production on the record and features some firey vocals.

"Princess of Power" is the first album I've heard by Marina and, oh my god, is it so deliciously ridiculous. Elderly millennial pop by zodiac girls is so back and I'm not sure if this will be an album I accidentally love by the end of the year.

Six albums into new releases for the week, and Little Simz's "Lotus" is looking like the front-runner. Lots of personal vulnerability matched by ingenious creativity that helps make it one of the more satisfying and emotional records of the year.

Listened to three OBCR's today. Here's some thoughts:

Having quite the first week of June.

Fun fact. The worst song on this is "Peanuts 2 N Elephant." It's was produced by MacArthur Genius Grant winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. Also, Bono is here for some reason.

The fuck am I doing up this late listening to Lil Wayne sing an interpolation of Weezer's "Island in the Sun"? This is bullshit.

Happy to announce that my third novel "Lava Lamp" is officially available for purchase! You can check it out in paperback here or from other major online retailers for $20. Digital edition coming June 1.

Anyway, I'm going to try and make a dent in this list until I fall asleep. Gonna start with Boop! I'm sure that's good late night music.

Girlfight is a solid little sports drama that finds a breakout role from Michelle Rodriguez full of charisma and heart. It doesn't do too much against the grain, but delivers on the intensity and fun where it counts. Also sets Karyn Kusama up for a promising directorial career.

Really hoping that Alien: Earth is part of the anthology miniseries format and we get Alien: Wind and Alien: Fire in the next few seasons.

Two films about lesbians in a row with his wife…Ethan Coen…are you…? I mean are you possibly…? So there’s this glowing TV…

Gynocentric communication

Friday's going to be ridiculous for music releases. Left at London, McKinley Dixon, Little Simz, Lil Wayne, Marina, Desplat's Phoenician Scheme score, and OBCR's for Boop!, Buena Vista Social Club, and Real Women Have Curves. Where will I find the time?

A huge recommend for anyone feeling a bit aimless in life. I return to it every few years with fresh eyes. Maybe Bryan Lee O'Malley's most realized project to date.

So excited to be seeing the Life of Pi live tomorrow night. It's always been a story that I'm partial to and the production history sounds right up my alley. I can't wait to see what innovations they do with the puppetry.

Excited to see Alexandre Desplat working with Wes Anderson again, but I hope his new work is more exciting than Asteroid City's was. I need a full on score again. Stuff like Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Moonrise Kingdom were magical.

Anyway, I'm going to hang out with Michelle Rodriguez right now and see if has a winner in this Girlfight.

Not sure how big the market for it is, but based on current events I'd love someone to do a short about a closeted gay person who must try to please their straight friends by watching the NBA finals while running to the other room to catch the concurrent airing of the Tony Awards.

Probably my favorite thing I learned this week from listening to podcasts is that the "Wazzup?" commercial guys did a reunion commercial in 2008 that was basically highlighting everything that Obama would fight for as president. Thanks to Mad Yourself a Men for making my life better.

Reading my first Dickens novel right now ("Bleak House") and it's amazing how immersive he is in a dozen pages. Even the way he describes fog is compelling and the way he transitions into the murky details of the plot is excellent. He's a lot more humanist than I would've thought as well.
