with a hearing loss - hearing clearly is v difficult in planes. Harder to hear someone next to me as well. And, having sat in front of ppl talking loudly for entire flights, I don’t want to force others to listen to an interminable conversation they didn't ask for.

Digital strike. Everyone cancel their subscriptions for a week. Amazon, Netflix, Spotify, etc. do it in the early summer so people get outside and commune.

Read @anildash.com perspective. Your own words suggest that the writers don't own their writing. The platform does. In addition to the Nazi problem, glomming onto Substack (as if it confers status) is a structural and authorial problem. There are alternatives.

As a regular reader of Tressie McMillan Cottom, my theory is that "Substack" is a signifier of status. Dr. Cottom argues that status is an underlying motivator of most behaviors. To leave would be to lose status.
