I rated How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) 9/10 #IMDb F. Murray Abraham takes on villain duties in this third and final instalment. The visuals are incredible and there’s a credible sense of threat that the previous film lacked. Blows the remake out of the water.

I rated Elio (2025) 6/10 #IMDb Pixar animation in which young Elio desperately wants a friend and believes the only way to do so is to be abducted by aliens. The animation looks great, but the story has very little depth and the aliens, which the story is mainly about, are far too generic.

I rated How to Train Your Dragon (2025) 6/10 #IMDb Scene-for-scene live-action remake of the excellent 2010 animation. There’s a complete absence of originality, making the whole exercise feel pointless. Gerard Butler does a good job reprising his role but I missed Baruchel. Just watch the original.

I rated Deep Cover (2025) 6/10 #IMDb Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammad are improv actors enlisted by Sean Bean to bring down Paddy Considine & Ian McShane’s drug ring. It’s got a good cast and there are a couple of funny bits, but there’s nothing great here.

I rated How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) 8/10 #IMDb An enjoyable sequel sees Hiccup meeting his mother and battling a rogue Viking. The animation is slicker and there continues to be an excellent sense of scale, but the first half is quite slow. The battle scenes in the 2nd half are great.

I rated Karate Kid: Legends (2025) 8/10 #IMDb Ben Wang relocates to New York City and is helped by Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio to kick some bottom. This was great Friday night fun, clearly made by fans of the original, with plenty of action and montages.

I rated Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell (1968) 7/10 #IMDb Gina Lollobrigida is a single Italian mother who’s been cashing the cheques of 3 Americans, each of whom could be the father. Telly Savalas, Phil Silvers and Peter Lawford are the confuses gents. Fun comedy with a plot clearly stolen by Mamma Mia.

I rated Bottle Rocket (1996) 6/10 #IMDb Wes Anderson’s first feature length film sees Luke and Owen Wilson try robbery as a career. There’s some amusing elements but it kind of runs out of steam half way through. Much more watchable than Asteroid City though.

I rated How to Train Your Dragon (2010) 10/10 #IMDb Hadn’t seen it in a while, and with the remake incoming thought it was worth a rewatch. It’s an excellent animated film with a fantastic score. It’s got a great sense of scale which makes the finale all the more impressive.
