I didn’t even check to see if supertommyc was taken this time. That’s aging I guess. Build a rocket, join a union, there’s a world to save and we’re running out of time

Should we, perhaps, have defunded the police

Harsh as it is, if Spurs replace Ange with Thomas Frank, that's an upgrade. Spurs got through the final rounds of the EL by playing very contrary to AP's principles so then it becomes a question of how sustainable that is long-term? Did it show a willingness to adapt or was it just about the trophy?

This was probably as a result of Kemi Badenoch speaking of the evils of critical race theory which she had picked up from an american far right online wormhole

This is such a gross smear of a brilliant scholar. Harvard did not hire Shaul Magid "to combat anti-Jewish bias on campus." That's not the job of a professor! They hired him to teach Jewish Studies, because he's a distinguished scholar in the field.

It has exposed the fact that a lot of our politicians and journalists really are spectacularly ignorant and there by the grace of their own privilege

This energy

Ellie look around, you NEED to hold signs and promise change. Power for power’s sake is not working out us right now

Oh look, reactionaries!

These male lionesses just aren’t as good as the women’s team, I’m just not sure that men’s football is going to take off if that’s the best we’ve got

bringing Josh Barro to that conference to shit on unions permanently poisoned the entire “movement” for me. we simply cannot do without labor

Honestly getting tired of explaining these basic mechanical facts about “generative AI”, so here’s someone else having a crack. Again these are not “mistakes”, they’re valid system outputs that just happen not to correspond to material reality.

Really easy to understand: Once she was helpful and now she is not. The polar opposite of helpful.

Weird how the national equality body has been used as a weapon against both the anti-austerity movement and transgender people. Almost like the British state is weaponised against any attempt by members of the public to effect l change that weakens the hold of approved chaps! Whatever could it mean.

Wish more artists took the time to voice support for Palestine, it’s not hard, it’s a great platform to do it as well, and it may not change much but solidarity is a gift

Reading The Tiger Who Came to Tea. The boy delivering groceries on his bike would have been an anachronism for most of the life of the book. Now not so much. Tells us something about British society and its evolution, but not quite sure what.

There is just no use case for ChatGPT in education. None.

If the non-negotiable position is “obviously racist wingnuts with horrifying opinions on the use of massive violence against civilians, are a cruelly persecuted minority, and anti-war protestors are an extremist Hitlerian menace” - and it is that - then this is going to happen again and again.

Will’s cooking on this one, honestly

fork found in kitchen

“Why are these police dressed like they’re going into combat” Cause we gave them the clothes and the gear. There was a very public discussion about it.

Andy Haldane’s gee whiz column in the FT is an absolute car crash. Jesus people really do be thinking that eg AI can solve problems of inequality and corporate sponsorship can fix poverty

Starmer grew up solidly middle class and Farage went to public school ffs.

The fury I feel when I see people trying to police PISSING (and shitting, changing menstrual products, perhaps even vomiting!) is off the charts. There aren’t enough public toilets ANYWAY but to actively exclude people from them WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE TO is repulsively cruel.

I can't help myself - I am jealous of Ange. This is the dream exit - second only to scoring the match-clinching goal late on in a major final then getting a red card shortly afterwards, departing to a standing ovation.

Fifteen years solid of roaring Islamist sex criminal migrant liberal-treason terror and screaming in fear about the Wokes trying to blackify Oxbridge later: There’s something a bit iffy about that Nigel chap, now that he’s no longer useful and is making us all look like exactly what we are.

Is David Cameron more oblong than the Queen? Does Manchester United evoke toast with marmite more than the V&A museum? What's purpler, your mum or a copy of the beano?

My man here is correct, and this is the reason why the Times has been vastly more poisonous than the Sun or the Mail: 1) it is the ruling class talking to itself, setting the boundaries of acceptability and common sense, and 2) its output for 15 years has been wildly inflammatory far right drivel.

Unfortunately they don’t care. If anything gets them going it’s appropriating things that aren’t theirs

More gaslighting from Fraser Nelson in The Times. Farage is not sliding into racism, and of course Nelson knows it. Racism is the only thing that Farage has to offer.

U-Turn please. "The UK’s cars are getting bigger by an average of 1cm every two years, with 52% of cars sold now too large for minimum parking spaces." www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/w...

The fact that Bridget Phillipson is now defending Mary-Ann Stephenson's appointment, despite knowing she cannot Chair a neutral regulator, wnd because she is an ideological ally, speaks clearly of Labour's attitude to governance: it is *identical* to that of the Tories.

this is true in the sense that anyone who goes into something as complex as a prestige TV series saying "I want to make left wing (or right wing) art" is going to make something that sucks 9 times out of 10 people with political views can make great art, but the focus has to be on the art.

If The Times is celebrating your appointment as the Chair of a neutral regulator because you are on its side you can't lead a neutral regulator.

we are nearly a year into a government betting the farm on this shit and the most senior political journalists in the country are finding this now

[Peston and Kuenssberg laughing and nodding along at press conference gif]

The archetypical British liberal commentator combines the objectivity pursuit of the worst reporter with the blinkered, guileless optimism of the columnist. The future is a wide-open space where anything could happen, but the present is just one big fait accompli, simply the way things is.

What’s that: people lying in what they have presumably convinced themselves is the national interest but is coincidentally heavily in their own interest, to people who are not overly inclined to check the truth of the matter? In Britain? In the 2020s. Heaven forfend

I bought a dog but it barks all the time
