There was an IDF base underneath?

The first casualty of war is irony.

In 2002 the US military did war games about conflict with Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. The team playing the USA got their arse handed to them. Eventually the Iran team was directed to let USA win. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millenn...

Want to improve productivity? Stop incentivising buying investment properties - they generate basically no productivity growth. The amount of money we have in housing is absurd, even compared to the USA www.theguardian.com/business/gro...

When you hear gas industry and friends complain the NWS expansion took six years to get approvals, remember - almost ALL of this was in the WA State process. And that was even after the WA government broke the WA EPA to stop it from considering climate change.

My favorite mass extinction event is the first one, when algae proliferated across the entirety of the oceans, pumping out so much oxygen that they suffocated nearly all life (including themselves). It brings me great comfort knowing that we have always been this way, even when we were plants.

Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi: "We did not have any proof of a systematic effort to move into a nuclear weapon [in Iran]." He added that it wasn't a matter of years that Iran would have nuclear weapons, "certainly, it was not for tomorrow."

Sophie would be so upset and angry about the state of things, the violence and hatred, enabled by mendacity and complicity. I was thinking about this the other day and how she would be full of fight.

A notable statement coming from a former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

🔴JD Vance’s ‘British Sherpa’ Chairs Organisation Funded by Billionaires Urging a Second US Civil War The man described as the Vice President’s “philosopher king” is linked to a series of right-wing billionaires who have condemned democracy and called for a “limited dictatorship” in the US

Bitcoin mining has been nothing more than a huge energy waste in past years. Now AI is about to surpass Bitcoin’s power demand. Emerging tech is rapidly driving up the power demand of worldwide digital infrastructure with the inevitable consequence being strained power grids and more fossil fuel use

"How much are you getting at the moment for selling the gas we gave you for free?"

Govt in a mess over Murajuga rock art impacts. They say there is no impact. Then they say they have imposed conditions to ensure no impact. Now off to Paris to lobby against the science to overturn UNESCO decision. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06...

Take your time with this cracker of a report on Monash Uni's partnership with climate crims, Woodside There're a LOT of revelations & glib, patronising responses fr Monash Respect & kudos to Monash staff & students fighting in the public interest 🙏 @roycerk2.bsky.social @drilledmedia.bsky.social

Victoria has driven a huge reduction in residential gas use since it peaked in 2019-20. Down 18.6 PJ per annum since then - this is HUGE! Equivalent to electrifying the entire gas consumption of every single household in QLD, WA and Tassie (15.9 PJ) and then some.

In Mar 25, compared to Mar 24: - global renewable generation was +4.5%, but - coal generation +8.7% (from a bigger base), - including +8% OECD - +27.3% in the USA! www.iea.org/data-and-sta...

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

Even the most conservative estimates of turnout (4-6 million) make No Kings the largest protest in American history www.thedailybeast.com/data-guru-g-...

“Car dependency is harmful for everyone, yet we force people into driving by failing to provide safe walking routes or reliable public transport to the places we all need to go - school, work, the shops, the GP. This doesn’t just isolate people – it…traps them in poverty and poor health” Read this👇

If you condemn Russia’s ‘preventive’ attacks on Ukrainian cities, including hospitals & journalists, but don’t condemn Israel’s ‘preventive’ attacks on Iranian cities, including hospitals & journalists, then you’re not actually opposed to Russia’s attacks. You’re just a partisan.

EXTREMELY ANNOYING The climate movement spent millions of $ over decades focusing on just transition, helping displaced workers, yet climate action still gets broadly criticised as causing 'job losses' Tech bros pop up saying "I WANT TO DESTROYJOBS ASAP" and get a glowing write-up in the NYT 🤨🧐🆒🗑️

What's with this headline. "Orders"? Israel doesn't run Tehran. Should read "warns them if they don't leave they will die"

lol.

Sophie would be making his life hell.

‘Wow! Did you know that Victorian residential gas use has fallen by 18.6 PJ since it peaked in 2019-20?’ 👏👏👏@tomquinn.bsky.social

Was recently asked to give a climate risk presentation in the Woodside building at @monashuniversity.bsky.social. Respectively told the organisers it was morally impossible to give my talk under that implied association. Akin to oncologist giving a lecture on cancer prevention in a ‘Marlboro centre’

I'm sure they will have license to examine Jukan Gorge, or Bouganville, or

I have been reminded by @rodcampbell.bsky.social that the SMHAge's "Red Alert" series published in March 2023 said we have less than 3 years to go! Cripes, we will be at war with China *next year*!!!

Spoiler: probably not. Israel, on the other hand, almost certainly does have nuclear weapons. It has never signed the non-proliferation treaty, and officially pretends it doesn't have any. Though as you may recall, one junior minister suggested they could use them on Gaza.
