Last post for the night is simply this: I'm so tired of begging this country to see us as human and our needs as real.

Labour government faces questions over why it stuffed access to elected office committee with Tories www.disabilitynewsservice.com/labour-gover...

The insidious thing about cutting disabled students' support is that it can force people out of courses, meaning they don't get qualifications for the career they plan on. This is nothing less than excluding disabled people from participating in work and in wider society - while calling us workshy.

Wait a minute - solar cells go stretchy if you make them out of wetsuit material? Wild swimmers could get central heating?

When an alleged assault by non-locals hits the news, Ballymena explodes - protests, violence, chaos. But when local men face charges for domestic violence, rape, or child abuse, where’s the outrage? Where are the crowds demanding justice for victims? No riots. No burning houses. No headlines. 1/2

Please sign this. Lyons's comments have been incredibly harmful and dangerous. He also refuses to work with women's and LGBTQIA+ groups on policy affecting us, and refuses to mitigate Westminster's incoming welfare reforms. For a Minister for Communities, he is anti-community in every way.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on the "inadvertent" part, because many of our politicians are old enough to remember the intensifying impact of Paisley's firebrand speeches on sectarian violence and can add 2 + 2, but yes, this has been a pattern for various unionist politicians lately.

The violence witnessed in Ballymena is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms. Attacks on police, destruction of property, and the terror inflicted on local residents have no place in a democratic society. 1/6

Orders for our new zine bundle are live! We've got stories about a grocery store cashier who might not even be real, a last-of-its-kind bird's final stand, a record-breaking human caviar harvest, an office worker's justifiably violent fantasies, and a new ghost's first ectogasm. Links in next post.

The finished piece. Oil and acrylic on canvas.

I hadn't heard of Charlie Kirk until last week, but sheesh what a deeply stupid person he is. I address one of his recent debates with students at Oxford University and challenge his narrow view of masculinity.

Restraining/protection orders will stop an abuser getting near their partner or stalking them. So what happens when they just hire someone to do it for them? #coercivecontrol #stalking #postseparationabuse shadowsofcontrol.com/in-the...

Just noting that if certain of the conspiracy theories were true, we would see many people still posting, but we don't.

the thing about not having an algorithm here is it's ok to have one fucking place that's not a popularity contest. we have the nielsen ratings. we have the charts. we have meta. everything is is already a popularity contest and it fucking sucks, globally. we can have one place where you vibe it out

Disabled person speaks out about abuse in a healthcare setting “They wouldn’t do that” “They can’t do that” “Just lodge a complaint!” “Just find another doctor” The imbalance of power is huge when you’re disabled. It’s not as simple as “just” complaining or finding another doctor Believe patients

A call-out on behalf of a student who is researching textile art and craft as environmental activism/action - looking for readings please!

All out in Belfast this Saturday afternoon to call for an end to the violence & an end to the hate!

For real though, the Poundland thing is sad to see. I think people tend to forget that people actually rely on pound shops, and that it's a retail sector whose international expansion coincided with a global recession and, here in the UK, with the early years of bitterly cruel Tory austerity.

You gotta admit, that's commitment to the bit. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

"We aren't taking your rights away" "We aren't taking your rights away" "We aren't taking your rights away" "We aren't taking your rights away" "You never had those rights to begin with"

A BLOODY MIRACLE, INNIT? The UK may be saying pip pip cheerio to criminalizing abortion at any stage of pregnancy VERY VERY SOON for the people of England and Wales!! Right now, abortion is legal up to 24 weeks BUT comes with hurdles of doom, like requiring TWO doctors to sign off. buff.ly/jWiKDsv

I was today years old when I learned about Josie Carter, the black queen at the center of the Black Nite Uprising, eight years before Stonewall. She apparently didn't identify as "transgender," but lived her entire adult life as a woman. "We do not run from a fight. We do not run from anything." 🖤

I have such nostalgia for this movie, but I somehow knew nothing about its making, and this thread delivers all sorts of entertaining and surprising trivia. Still on my list of things I wouldn't watch on my own at night.

The level of 'discipline' that liberals demand from protest movements would require a leader to hold absolute total authority and control over everyone else. But that's what people are protesting against. That's the fucking point.

There is the pretext for anti-immigrant activity (illegal aliens are taking your jobs!), and there is the text (foreigners with bad values are invading America!), but it is important not to forget the subtext: It is in the interest of capital to make sure we do not build international solidarity.

Disabled people have been warning that the “embrace mass covid reinfections” narrative was first pushed by anti vax right wing libertarians, now they’ve consolidated power. They are against disease mitigation and have pushed anti mitigation ideas mainstream.

Nimbus Covid variant (nicknamed “razor blade throat”) is widespread in the US China reported a doubling in hospitalized cases, and there are anecdotal reports on social media that some doctors have died & they’re seeing pneumonia again It’s difficult to verify, but an excellent reason to mask up!

The High Court has just given judgment in @goodlawproject.bsky.social's favour dismissing the application made by the EHRC's landlord for an injunction to criminalise protests at the EHRC offices (and which the EHRC encouraged its landlord to obtain). caselaw.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ewhc/kb/2025...

In order to avoid cuts to key services we all rely on, the government is going to have to tax the extreme wealth of the super-rich. Head of Advocacy and Policy, Caitlin Boswell, had their say on the spending review this morning on GB News.

This is my fear. The problem is that it's incredibly difficult to get most people to engage in depth with the present material conditions of disabled people, which leaves them unable to effectively evaluate any changes that are made. You need the context of the texture of our lives to grasp impact.

This looks like the most unsurprising chart I've ever seen, but if you only read British media you'd lose your mind learning that this is the reality of it

I feel like to write about Bluesky authoritatively you need to have logged at least a hundred hours on here. A lot of the critiques I’m reading seem based off the top of their Discover page and they’re describing something that isn’t what the platform is like for its most active users

Same as it ever was. During the Troubles one of the stock phrases was "mistaken identity". It's what the paramilitaries would say after they "accidentally" murdered someone they didn't mean to murder because they mistook them for whoever they intended to murder.

Please read this thread and understand what is happening here. We are not exaggerating when we say this is a fucking pogrom happening in Northern Ireland right now.

Fuck yes! I managed to break through to a friend who voted Trump, and get them to start processing the problems with ICE How did I do it? I pointed out that ICE running around with zero ID and masks makes it hard to teach kids to trust cops. It’s a safety issue- 1/

an incomplete list of things I have had to force onto a crying toddler: - antibiotics - bedtime - shoes - toast that had been cut into triangles rather than squares - a banana that had snapped in half and she didn't want a *new* banana, she wanted me to fix *this* banana
