Gripping and profoundly disturbing. If you're weary of typical horror tropes, this will be a breath of fresh air. It might just be my favorite book of the year so far.

This confronts the biggest lie on the web: "I have read and agree to the Terms," by providing clear summaries of agreements for major platforms like Facebook, Amazon, Reddit etc. If it makes you reconsider, think about switching to more ethical alternatives tosdr.org/en

We're living through the Who Cares Era, where completely disposable things are shoddily produced for people to mostly ignore, while the government stomps its uncaring boot on our necks. But there's an easy way to fight back: Care. I wrote about it: dansinker.com/posts/2025-0...

OpenAI is featuring a "Looksmaxxing GPT" that provides "PSL ratings" for photos. It will rate people as "subhuman", and advise men to get invasive procedures like jaw surgery to "increase their sexual market value" among women, who it describes as "hypergamous by nature".

I see soooooooo many great writers putting so much of their time, effort, skill and money squarely in the lap of a really evil and untrustworthy company. Morality questions aside: is it worth planting seeds in THIS soil, in this moment? Does it seem likely to pay off? So many alternatives!

I'm thrilled that @restofworld.org has excerpted one of my favorite passages from EMPIRE OF AI. It's not about Sam Altman or OpenAI directly. It's about what their vision of scale is costing us—and how we could dare to dream for a different conception of progress. 1/ restofworld.org/2025/ai-reso...

If you live in a community with 98% vaccination rates, you can afford to be the 2%. You can post wellness memes about "natural immunity" and still get herd immunity as a side effect. Another word for that: privilege. www.theindex.media/the-herd-imm...

A young person, just trying to figure things out, shouldn’t feel they have to ask for permission to use a washroom. They shouldn’t need permission to exist. Yet that’s exactly what the regime is attempting to do to trans people, and it’s wrong. This was a beautiful read (have tissues handy!)

The entire modern internet has been built on platforms that don’t believe in asking for consent. What if we started demanding a culture of consent online? www.anildash.com//2025/05/27/...

The second installment in my series on How Vaccines Work is here. Today I talk about the different types of impacts a vaccine can have and why sometimes it might feel like a vaccine didn’t work, even if it did. open.substack.com/pub/epiellie...

Had lunch with someone wearing Meta’s smart glasses and a Bee AI device. I didn’t realise until midway and suddenly the conversation felt… off. They casually explained that Bee AI helps them remember conversations and summarise their day. The tech is subtle, but the intrusion isn’t. 1/3

deplet.ing/the-copilot-... "You’re not working with a copilot. You’re playing Russian roulette with a loaded dependency graph." So quotable!

welcome to the future, now your error-prone software can call the cops (this is an Anthropic employee talking about Claude Opus 4)

As @reckless.bsky.social asks "The traffic to the web is in precipitous decline as Google referrals go into decline. How do you fix that problem so that everyone is incentivized to keep building on the web?" And no one seems to have an answer. stratechery.com/2025/the-age...

There's a growing trend where the use of em dashes in writing is seen as a sign that the text was generated by AI—which is a bit ironic, considering I've always liked using them for their rhythm and flexibility. These days, though, I catch myself using them less just to avoid that assumption. 1/2
