"to democratize art is not every person having a cute drawing made in seconds, to democratize art is every person having time and health to learn and make art if they chose to, and mainly to have the means to think and relate introspectively with art."

Just finished listening to @karenhao.bsky.social's empireofai.com 📚💙 A sobering investigative journalism, exploration of the power dynamics of the AI industry, its ethics, environmental impact, & the dual possibilities of AI as either an equalizer, or a tool to perpetuate systemic inequality. 1/

"frontier LRMs face a complete accuracy collapse beyond certain complexities. Moreover, they exhibit a counter-intuitive scaling limit: their reasoning effort increases with problem complexity up to a point, then declines despite having an adequate token budge" ml-site.cdn-apple.com/papers/the-i...

🚨PSA for anyone using GPT in human subjects research🚨 A judge has ruled that OpenAI must retain ChatGPT and API data indefinitely, with few exceptions. This might have implications for your IRB compliance and the security of your participants' data. 1/

My cartoon for this week’s @newscientist.com

Y'all are just gonna have to get to know me as the book club girl! If you're interested in AI or navigating the hype-fueled AI space with a realistic perspective, you should join me! Starting next week I'll be leading a weekly 1hr discussion on The AI Con and Data Grab! #bookclub #booksky

www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/hea... Two decades ago, India was praised for eradicating leprosy, but climate change and poverty could lead to its resurgence. Climate change is causing cracks in our public health systems. It demands urgent interventions, visibility, and funding.

Proponents of genAI promise to end cancer, solve climate change, enable brain microchips, & eliminate work. However, the reality is at best a 10% ROI in developer productivity. Amidst the vitriol of overly optimistic views, this article offers a refreshing perspective. blog.glyph.im/2025/06/i-th...

Happy Pride, Everyone.

This past semester was the most stressful of my academic career. I had 180 students and about half cheated at some point in the semester They submit weekly reflections where the questions are opinion-based, graded only on effort, don't care about grammar SO MANY students submitted ChatGPT essays

Today, as part of the @techpolicypress.bsky.social and @datasociety.bsky.social "Ideologies of Control: A Series on Tech Power and Democratic Crisis" series, @emilymbender.bsky.social and I write about the myth of AGI. www.techpolicy.press/the-myth-of-...

I want to add another layer of nuance here. Ethan writes "But the world we live in now, in which we struggle to understand and constrain our machines, is anything but normal." I don't think the LLMs are actually mysterious at all >>

Put it this way: The universe does not care if we live or die. It is a dangerous and hostile place and the best tools we have to prevent suffering, death, and misery is science. And it’s an “arms race” in some aspects. Science has saved more humans than any other investment throughout history.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

Gripping and profoundly disturbing. If you're weary of typical horror tropes, this will be a breath of fresh air. It might just be my favorite book of the year so far.

This confronts the biggest lie on the web: "I have read and agree to the Terms," by providing clear summaries of agreements for major platforms like Facebook, Amazon, Reddit etc. If it makes you reconsider, think about switching to more ethical alternatives tosdr.org/en

We're living through the Who Cares Era, where completely disposable things are shoddily produced for people to mostly ignore, while the government stomps its uncaring boot on our necks. But there's an easy way to fight back: Care. I wrote about it: dansinker.com/posts/2025-0...

OpenAI is featuring a "Looksmaxxing GPT" that provides "PSL ratings" for photos. It will rate people as "subhuman", and advise men to get invasive procedures like jaw surgery to "increase their sexual market value" among women, who it describes as "hypergamous by nature".
