#TeslaTakeDown

Please spread the correct information about Mayor Baraka's arrest. He had apparently been trying for a few days to visit the ICE prison and was rebuffed. Then the members of Congress tried to visit today and were made to wait in the waiting area for 90 minutes. Then 20 ICE Gestapo showed up...

As we approach the end of the semester or quarter at colleges and universities might some local NYC faculty want to donate some of your books to Bluestockings? I know some of you need to clear out your offices, lol.

Come to our NYC Public Library People's Assembly next Saturday 5/17. Help us develop a collective vision of what we want to see happen with more funding. www.eventbrite.com/e/1331411851... - Please register so we have a good sense of space capacity.

I’ve long believed that part of people’s fascination with Gen AI comes from not being able to sit with or explore the idea of death, love, and grief in people’s lives

Columbia students in a standoff with campus police, after occupying Butler Library and declaring it a liberated zone, dubbed the Basel Al-Araj Popular University.

72% percent of voters say a lot or some corruption exists among Republicans. And 71% say this of Democrats. From our latest survey via Data for Progress, fielded May 2-3, N=1202 likely voters nationally.

💯💯💯 I think this is the first meme in my life I have ever saved

Returned to these words by Deborah Levy today as a reminder that our ideas of strength and conviction in our leaders, heroes, “strongmen”, and idols need to shift. There’s such strength in a wee tremor, so much care in a shaking voice, and such wisdom in hesitation & self doubt.

NYC Public Library Action Network (NYC PLAN) has a newsletter now! You can subscribe here: nycplan.eo.page/gf4fb - We just sent out our first issue this week.

Times are changing, people, my Republican-leaning dad is quoting Marx at me.

I share this because organizing is often mystified as a process. And people don't know what it takes [which is not their fault]. It often COSTS you to organize. The image in the public of organizers who are grifters or living large in some way is FALSE [the exceptions to this are MINISCULE].

Every new organizer on the Left(s) comes up against the moment when you are organizing a public event and have absolutely no money to do so. You see the very real limits of what's possible in those moments.

come sound off, learn, and dream about libraries on may 17th in brooklyn! www.eventbrite.com/e/nyc-public...

Got a good chuckle out of this

Something that brought me joy today

🎉🥳

"There are good people in the wings, good people on the bench ready to serve, and they can fight this fight just as effectively as I can. There comes a point where you have to face reality that this is the time to leave for me.” YES and they can do it better!! Next up Chuck Schumer

“The parties included a 7-year-old boy, wearing a shirt emblazoned with a pizza cartoon, who spun a toy windmill while the judge spoke. There was an 8-year-old girl and her 4-year-old sister, in a tie-dye shirt, who squeezed a pink plushy toy and stuffed it into her sleeve.”

Please read this. I can’t take anyone who will not say the words white nationalism or facism seriously anymore.

Zeldin and Trump have publicly called out environmental activists by name. On social media, people have responded to their allegations with calls to imprison the people he has targeted, charge them with treason and even execute them www.propublica.org/article/eart...

😂 just saw @bcmerchant.bsky.social’s book in a bookstore again and this fits like well worn jeans

"public opinion" is dynamic. It doesn't mean that policy is determined by it. It just means that it is a resource and can be shaped.

If 50% of USians supported a return of chattel slavery, one does wonder how to Democratic party would respond.

In today's episode of the White and the Furious, someone emailed me to complain that #TeslaTakeDown is an *ineffective* tactic as if I'm the manager... I responded that I would take it up with management.

Flipping thru Maggie Nelson’s Pathemata yday and read something like the time after waking is great for creativity and fully knowing this she would wake up and browse twitter. I burst out laughing when I read that but it’s not as funny when I intend to write in the am and get worked up in bsky 🙃

Sometimes I wonder if Musk’s deportation focus comes from some weird psychological wound of potentially being deported sometime?

But sure, meritocracy. Got it.

quick question: why was noem carrying $3,000 in cash? was she just out selling drugs or something?

Sometimes I think about doing an MFA in fiction and from an institutional standpoint so far it’s Columbia: Absolutely not, UMich: 💯, NYU: 🤷🏽‍♀️

And Usians are going to learn how much immigration is responsible for the U.S. birth rate not completely collapsing.

ALSO, I know many younger people who would like to have a child but simply CANNOT afford to raise one. The social and political supports do not exist. Their families cannot help under late stage capitalism. They don't have strong community ties due to capitalism and more.

“It's hypocrisy to call yourself a Christian and chase away a refugee or someone seeking help, someone who is hungry or thirsty, toss out someone who is in need of my help. If I say I am Christian, but do these things, I'm a hypocrite." -Pope Francis

I'm seeing people who don't live in NYC look at this photo and bemoan the lack of a vision for the city from leadership, but the reason for this is a lot less lofty - there's a bunch of people who spend all their time yelling at electeds about parking and driving, and electeds who agree with them.

it's important this go as viral as the original story for morale purposes if nothing else. despite the image they project these people are NOT unaccountable. consequences CAN be forced. focused anger and outrage MATTERS.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate. For those who don’t, this is what passes for a rabbit in image search.
