Speaking of DD, my latest progress is that I am consistently pulling off the 80 second farm in the early game, and getting to the 3 Gigapedes, yet to scrape one tho...

"Doom: The Dark Ages" (2025) Completed: Nightmare MAX sliders (Except Damage taken and dished out) An almost identical combat dynamic to Eternal, but with less depth at every level. A novel, fun experience initially, but not much beyond that. backloggd.com/u/WokeBlader...

There is a very real argument to be made, that second formal metrics like score or time can be used to mask up stinky core game in some cases. But as a society we are still at the stage of convincing people that secondary formal goals matter, so we are long way away from that

We will be there day1

Funny enough, this sort of already exists in a makeshift way within the Combo MAD community, where players review eachothers creative gameplay, but as it stands its opt in, which is an issue

What one considers stressful and anxious another considers engaging. Stress and stakes are a vital part of game design of challenging experiences, timers establish momentum. The post is obviously facetious, but I do genuinely believe most games require a player-independent momentum

I am convinced that this was kind of the idea behind Ninja Cinema in my beloved Ninja Gaiden 2

Wouldn't dare ruin my fun and do it any other way

The Game still suffers to a large extent of your points + things you did not mention like the identity crisis of arena design and lack of formal timer/scoring/incentive. But I think it's a good argument FOR sliders as a compromise, because you can rescue things a bit with value tweaks

More or less, initially in fights atleast. The combination of being more grounded than Eternal, projectiles flying at speeds they were clearly not designed for (the curving effect my god), and low resources contributes to making it less reactive and a bit more routing, which is a cerebral step up

3/ i don't really want to hype it up, since the core issues can still peek through often, especially in more open areas, but it's certainly 10x more fun when the game is more racing to clear Bullshit than weaving for parries

2/ it could just be my skill level, but I find the amount of bullshit that flies creates a sort of makeshift NG2 experience out of the game, especially the 150% speed. It almost creates a gameplan for a lot of later encounters, out of the white noise of Nu-Doom

1/ (I agree with most your points, in fact I think you are pretty charitable to both games) I will do the thing that makes sliders a black & white compromise, and ask you to try maxed out sliders (without touching the damage) because I am curious.

Anything that takes the form of a commodity to be exchanged inherently is corrupted at its core, and all we are doing is making the best of it, and not necessarily making it as good as it can be

I maintain the right to be wrong tho, it's been solid 2+ years since I played Eternal

I can see what you mean by the movement tho, but I actually find myself getting trapped more often this way rather than the freedom of flying through the air, even with the broken vacuum and central parry

There is no timer or score to make going fast actually matter, so it stands neither games have any real consequences beyond getting one shotted and a 10 second window I am curious to revisit Eternal side by side

I have not fully made up my mind yet (leaning towards liking), but how did you feel about Eternal? To me it has the same core gnawing issue as it (the infinite resource loop) so to me it is its brother

Chapters are already incredibly large, so they can work as self contained just fine, with certain weapons littered around the map

You are correct

There is a reality where the Mech was a Beat em up about crowd control, and the Dragon was Zone of Enders 2, but games have a limited time, and budget, and thats a pipe dream Their inclusion was a serious misstep in the campaigns quality
