My mosaic teacher has beef with this place (the colored grout was done with regular house paint and as such it’s deteriorating rapidly, the better choice is mason stain) but it’s worth seeing, maybe especially as it’ll all fall apart sooner than it should: www.phillymagicgardens.org

If you’d asked me at the time I’d have said ‘oh yeah I have a lot of cowlicks in the front’ and I wouldn’t have thought the less ringlet-y ones were not essentially straight. I cannot stress enough how I thought this photo was due to unique environmental conditions that made my hair act weirdly.

This absolute fool did not understand the implications and thought the curls were cowlicks

I basically was just accidentally fucking up the wave pattern most of my life! My dating profile pic even showed me with waves- it was when I got super sweaty dancing at a wedding where they had a semi-professional photo shoot. I was extremely confused about how my hair got that way T_T

short) and it was only after hearing that it might in fact be an in-between texture from the internet that I started learning to care for it as such. I’d always wanted textured hair but assumed mine couldn’t possibly be. Turns out it’s 2B.

Much like with my bisexuality, I was vaguely aware that my hair would wave/curl in certain specific conditions, I just didn’t think it *counted* as textured hair. I treated it like straight hair most of my life (brushing it straight when wet when it was long, aggressively terry-toweling it dry when

The White House is doing a stellar job at making me fear for the life, health, and education of the child I’m about to have :/

I don’t know when I started using ‘girlypop’ as a direct address but I’m scared it’s gonna stick.

Have just told the fetus, “Don’t worry, Girlypop, millions of people led satisfying, meaningful lives during the fall of the Roman Empire.” 🙃

Brb, terminating my wanted, viable third trimester fetus since it gave me gestational diabetes and joint pain, and Dr. Oz says it’s my patriotic duty to be healthy

Doing ok! I finally got some hyperfocus at work yesterday (on something relevant enough to the actual task at hand that it was in fact beneficial 💀) and I’m hoping I can do that again today. Also I added a tbsp of cocoa to my coffee this morning!

I have 6 days of all in-range blood sugar readings, the 7th is so far so good, and I just found out that if I use a specific brand of whole wheat bread I can eat an entire sandwich!!! With two slices of bread!!! Like a person who doesn’t have an absurd medical diet!!! 🤩🥳🥹 Lunch game-changer for sure

(I enjoy characters where you’re like ‘in theory someone could fix you but in your reality and under your own power that is literally the opposite of what will happen & everyone and yourself will probably make you worse’. …Yes, I am a well-known Tuon Enjoyer, weird how that happened)

It’s all very yin and yang (kinda literally) and the protagonists of each novel are foils for each other (also they have a not-so-secret shared foil in a self-hating gay eunuch with immense political power who needs therapy in the absolute worst way and has neither access nor interest in it)

I really enjoyed it and the sequel has similar themes but for femininity in those times & places & cultures. If you ever want to get hit with the ‘gender is a social construct and it has real effects socially & psychologically but it also isn’t everything about everyone’ hammer it’s so good for that

The Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire has a trans male character but we haven’t got his full story yet (the author is proceeding extremely carefully to make sure her audience trusts her to do the long version respectfully.) They are contemporary portal fantasy and very good!

It also focuses on evangelical Christian religious & political/scientific trauma, so depending on how you cope with that stuff happening IRL it might be either a ‘yes please’ or a ‘hell no’ right now.

Andrew Joseph White also writes contemporary and/or fantasy YA with trans male protagonists and characters: Hell Follows With Us is a near-contemporary post-apocalyptic fantasy horror story. I liked it ok but I think I would have liked it better if it wasn’t YA.

She Who Became The Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan, first in a duology, retelling of the rise to power of the Ming Dynasty’s founder with a magic element. It’s a really interesting look at masculinity & transness in a historical milieu and also just a great story.

I also hated the backstories thing, Mat is a much better & economical liar than that and we have proof (alternate identity Thom Grinwell, who is mostly Mat but with a few identifying details removed/obfuscated)

So sleepy but the alien in my guts has been throwing a dance party (with reasonable breaks) for like 36 hours now, which is objectively funny. I’m dragging myself through the day and the creature is like ‘I too have ADHD, Mother, let me demonstrate my inability to sit still :)’

If you’re ever in the mid-Atlantic, drop by a Ceremony Coffee! I just tried the Rwanda Humure (‘Cherry cola, white grape, juicy’) and they are not bullshitting, it is what it says. Also I am very caffeinated right now wheeeeeee

The one good thing about gestational diabetes is that I am being forced to develop a palate for unsweetened and/or black coffee. So when I go to bougie coffee spots now, I’m trying stuff that wouldn’t go well with milk & experiencing all sorts of interesting flavors & nuances.

I just had delicious bougie drip coffee (they weren’t lying, it does kinda taste like cherry cola!?!) and now all is right with the world
