The fact a post here shows up for my followers is a deal breaker. They won't know it's part of this discussion. I know why it works that way. But I'll stop using Threadsky until they upgrade the @protocol to allow it to post only here. Sorry.

This is a post on Threadsky, a Reddit type app that works on ATproto. It shows up in your feed because you follow me, even if you don't follow the particular discussion I posted to on Threadsky. That's a problem with ATproto that they need to fix.
It's not a problem with atproto, it's a problem with threadsky. What you're describing is absolutely possible to do and is how @frontpage.fyi works. Posts and comments made there don't show up on Bluesky but are still using atproto
Awesome. I had checked out frontpage a month or so ago but for some reason it didn't do what I was looking for. I'll check it out again. Glad to know that the posts there don't go out to my followers.
Ah, now I remember. There're no topics, it's just a single unlabeled feed. I just didn't get what that discussion was about, it seemed to be about tech stuff. What if I want to join a discussion about say, hang gliding? How do I do that on Frontpage?
Threadsky is definitely going in the right direction for what a Reddit website could look like, but the dev doesn't seem to be actively working on it or responding currently... It does prove it is possible to get an ecosystem like Reddit.

Got a few items on the roadmap to change this though:
- New post types: long form text, gallery of media, combinations thereof
