Belittling someone is a very low form of humor. Being mean to people to get likes and laughter has become culturally acceptable in the age of social media.
If I work for a company with a stupid name, and someone asks who I work for, how is it belittling me if I tell them and they make fun of the company name? Why on earth would I be offended because I work for a company with a dumb name?
So you would be in favour of family planning services or geriatric services for infants? The name isn’t a silly as you think. Adults and children are all people but have different needs.
I love this! Slightly confused and wondering what they could possibly mean by “adult and child services,” but that’s ok. It might make sense to someone at Durham County Council.
I think it's bureaucratic jargon for social work. Different teams for kids vs. adults needing assistance (think mental health or elderly). The overall organisation then becomes "Children's and Adult Services". Nice to see someone pointing out the inherent humour in that name.
“Flies Humping On The Table” humour is the most innocent pure simplistic form of humour. The humour of the simple folks. It’s the ancestor of observational humour. Which birthed sarcasm humour. So on and so forth. This clip was an example of all three merged in one. No spice or vulgarity necessary.
I think writing comedy and practising crowd work really trains your brain to look for a different way in or out of or around a common premise and when it hits with a big giggle like this it’s so rewarding.
Don’t get me wrong I also love a late night rowdy drunk crowd but I’m also really keen on this super alert, day time earlier crowd who react to gentle jokes and word play with a bit more eagerness.
Speed is integral to the dopamine hit that we get with jokes. It must hit the same neural pathways as music in a way because rhythm matters and we recognise the beat of comedy.
You really notice this on panel shows, where the speed and timing of the response often has more impact on the laughter than the actual quality of the response
There are recognisable patterns that humans find funnier than others - there’s a thing we call the rule of 3 where if a comedian is using a list the third option is the twist on the pattern that makes us laugh.

THE ELDERLY AREN'T PEOPLE‼️
It's teens that are not people (having been a teen I should know).
...it's why STI's run rampant in senior care centers
And further proves that the elderly still aren't people; using your logic 😜
lol
Ok you may have a point.
