As in popular new indies like people have already mentioned very well, or when I saw Suede & Blur in tiny places like Koko in their dying days before the first split?
I saw The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and Hot Chip at small venues in the 00s - probably around 2003/4. Oooh and Clor were fantastic. Mystery Jets seemed to be everywhere for a while.
Yeah, totally us. But, after that length of time, we were amazed to still be together, bemused that anyone still cared, and hugely grateful to still have the opportunity to do shows.
Small venues… depends on how you define small. Around that time Modest Mouse was playing with Johnny Marr. I saw them in a standing around venue in DC around that that time. Also Postal Service jumps out as having some recognizable songs but I’m not sure if they ever bumped up to arena shows.
The Alarm. Saw them at St David's Hall in Cardiff during that decade. Intensely loyal following for a band of the 80s. If you reference them it would be a lovely memorial.
