I'm fine with Bowles getting one more year as HC to break through the ceiling if both Coen stays on as OC and the Glazers make him delegate his defensive responsibilities to a DC. If firing him and promoting Coen is the only way to keep him, I'm 100% on board.

Bowles is a great guy and players love him

But, his defenses have played soft for 3 years and his in-game strategic decision making is, at best, wildly inconsistent

Liam Coen was the engine that kept this team competitive - if he goes, we win 7 next year

My guess, we keep both and in 10 again

Bowles isn’t a bad coach but he isn’t good enough to win three playoff games. He lost the Rams playoff game in his first year and I think this one too. I’d still give him a chance if he had a full DC and Liam Cohen.

shouldn't since Lovie WAS a major part of the problem. Koetter didn't prove to be the answer, but he gave them a chance to reset. They're at the same crossroads now. Bowles keeps fielding a bottom 10 defense and making mind numbing coaching decisions. Coen provides another opportunity to reset.

Oh, I’m absolutely not saying that Bowles should stick around. Dump him just like Lovie. I just always have the fear that a good coordinator doesn’t always make a good coach, but that’s the gamble.

for sure, I do know a lot of people have used that as a reason not to do it (wasn't saying you were one of those people lol). But yeah, in the end neither Lovie nor Koetter were the answer. In this case Bowles probably isn't...and Liam is an unknown. Think you have to take the unknown.

I like Coen, but I don’t think everything goes out the window if he leaves.

You are right. Bowles - whom I like and don’t want to see fired - ASSUMES his defense will play what he calls “assignment football” they frequently don’t do that because of injury & inexperienced. That must change.

In 49 seasons, Bucs have been a top 5 offense 4 times - Arians in 19, 20, 21 and Coen in 24. You have to do whatever you can to keep him.

Also not enough props to Arians for that 2019 season with Winston. If Winston just didn't throw 30 INTs 🥲

Pretty sure one or two of the Dirk Koetter (OC or HC) years with Jameis Winston we had a Top 5 offense in some category - and not just interceptions thrown.

I should have clarified - I mean by points scored. Arians had 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, Coen had 4th, Dungy had a year where they were 6th and outside of that every other season has been 12th or worse.

It's always hilarious to me that Winston led the league in interceptions and got benched for the next 2 years and the QBs with the most interceptions those 2 years ended up as SuperBowl champions! 🐏 🦅

There are only a handful of coaches jobs that I'd call safe , Bowles isn't one of them , clock management is a basic fundamental but he can't get it right ,he's on the hot seat

As a longtime Bengals fan, one of the most maddening things about the way Marvin Lewis coached back in the day is I felt the dude at times litterally played for the field goal. Like he was always too content to let drives stall out if he at least was in field goal range. Feels similar here...

Like sure he had Andy Dalton for his "best" years but I never felt like he was sincerely ever playing to win. Just always to not lose. To borrow a colleague of yours quote a bit he never played like his offense was better than his opponents or any good either at times...

If it came down to making Coen the HC or losing him I’d want Cowan as the HC. I’d be fine with Bowles being HC if Coen stays as OC but if it came down to either Bowles or Coen for HC I’d want Coen.

Yes, plus how he got Chris Godwin hurt in a no win situation extending a game that was a clear loss was unforgivable for me.
His time management an inability to adapt his defense to its moving parts is fireable. I dont care that they won the anemic South.

Bowles ability to develop talent is light years better than everyone that coached us between Super Bowl titles.

He seems to be able to give us a chance every year - hope I didn’t have in the pre Dungy or 05-19 years.

I just wish we could beat any bad team, ever, besides just Carolina.

I think Bowles has ironically shown improvement as a HC but has gone backwards as a DC. Blitz schemes are still innovative but everything else is old, especially the reluctance to go match zone. IF he'd be willing to delegate the DC role(not to anyone on the current staff) I'd be ok if he stays.

I am personally fine with the Bucs getting rid of Bowles and would still be ok with it even if Coen left. At this point it's been multiple seasons of getting eliminated early in the playoffs and our defense has gotten worse over the past few years even with the offense improving this last year.

long said Bucs need to do whatever it takes to keep him, whether that be give him a huge pay raise and an assistant HC title and tell him he's the heir apparent, or firing Bowles and promoting him outright. Jags job isn't the most attractive so I think there's still a good shot to keep him.

also hopefully Ben Johnson's situation has shown that he doesn't necessarily need to jump to the first HC job presented. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL but there's a good chance he's the top HC candidate in next year's coaching cycle, and will have more leverage and power over where he ends up.

he costs us a few games with click mgmt issues and conservative play calling. Against KC offense was rolling, he kicked the extra point to tie and PM won the game in OT. Sunday he kicked fg because offense wasn’t great. But can’t fire him if there’s no one better no unproven commodities
