I’m always a little jealous of how spirited and in-your-face protest and dissatisfaction against European politicians can get. This here is a really good one.
I hope we can get more heroes like Mr. Bullhorn to keep American politicians on notice.
People used to get up on makeshift platforms in public parks and just make speeches. Whoever didn't want to listen could just avoid them. it was enough of a cliché that we still talk about being "on a soapbox" as if it were something embarrassing, not the courageous and selfless act it often was.
Well, sometimes you get labor organizers (good), sometimes you get Westboro Baptist Church (not good). It’s not the soapboxes’ fault that they are a popular strategy among cranks, but it’s still true.
Undefeated in their consistency on electing truly awful mayors. I mean, they could’ve had Maya Wiley, but they wanted a cop who surprise surprise turned out to be a corrupt public official.
Best press conference since rishi Sunak, the (outgoing) British prime minister called outside no. 10, in the rain, and someone with a loudspeaker blasted the other party's winning theme music from the last election. That's a core memory.
