Coco Gauff telling the ball kids “you guys are awesome!” and that of course they can touch the cup. There are different levels of winning; opening space to lift up others is the top.

IF THE SITUATION WAS HOPELESS THEIR PROPAGANDA WOULD BE UNNECESSARY

public support for *interracial* marriage only broke 50 percent in the mid-1990s. when my parents were born it polled at 4 percent among white people, now it polls at 93 percent among white people.

This parade will cost at least the equivalent of 180 years worth of an NIH biomedical research grant.

Happy World Ocean Day 🐠🦈🐟 #worldoceansday #shark

Looking at the records & photos of SNCC non-violent protest training… …I would not have passed. And probably neither would many of the folk reading this. Included role-playing that involved: -verbal abuse -physical assault -intense harassment exploringsncc.weebly.com/sncc-trainin...

It is what groups in the UK like Sex Matters are openly arguing for now

Watched a random YouTube Who con panel with three Doctors on it, and am delighted that, in answer to "If you could have one more TV adventure, what would it be about?, Colin's was "Stop the orange monster's parents from meeting" and Eccleston's was "Go to the hospital Nigel Farage was born in."

A lot of folks need to pause and speak gently to themselves. Admit to yourself, "I'm afraid right now." Sit with that for a moment, understand what reflexes it's triggering, and that those impulses don't necessarily apply meaningfully to anything that's happening.

It's pretty obvious who hasn't ever been on a demonstration that "turned violent". It is always, always the police who escalate. You protest peacefully, they attack in some manner, everything turns to chaos and yeah THEN, AFTER THEY STARTED IT they can get video of some kid throwing a paving slab.

Having been exposed to tear gas I can only surmise that fascism is hot and a bit burny…

Oooh, you mean it's OK to leave, realise it's a mistake, then rejoin? 😉

Tanks, Bradley fighting vehicles and Paladin howitzers arrive in DC for the Army birthday parade a week from today. (Video: DVIDS)

Related to this, my impression is that it's hard for AI companies to avoid accidentally making sexy bots, because "faking enthusiastic interest" automatically comes across as flirtatious? Humans are an ill-made creature.

To quote Terry Pratchett: THERE IS NO JUSTICE. THERE IS JUST US. We take care of us because the fascist police state won’t (is actively causing harm & death)

"Black applicants would, on average, need credit scores approximately 120 points higher than white applicants to receive the same approval rate, and about 30 points higher to receive the same interest rate."

Morning Bluesky. The Pentagon spent years creating UFO reports to hide weapons tests.

“Recently, there have been claims that autism is being “over-diagnosed”. Given that it took me until the age of 50 to receive a diagnosis, I’d challenge this. I’d also like to challenge some of the stereotypes that prevail.” @mattcainwriter.bsky.social: www.theguardian.com/society/2025... #autism

This is a big and important statement.

I worry a bit about the use of AI to diagnose software incidents. (For context, I'm mostly going to be talking about the kinds of incident which cause website outages and service degradation, not safety critical systems.)

lol I missed the start of today's big drama because I was at the theatre... ...watching Swan Lake Matthew Bourne's gloriously queer Swan Lake might I add, which Fox's viewers may not appreciate 🏳️‍🌈 It was, of course, wonderful. Out of body experience 🥹 www.npr.org/2021/08/19/1...

Child casualties almost halved, child deaths down by 3/4… All the other stats don’t really matter

Elon threatening to just leave people on the ISS is making a pretty good case for why you nationalize your space program!

The speed of writing code has never, and will never be the bottleneck. The bottleneck, the limiting factor, is always in the thinking about the code and how it works, understanding it. People who use chatgpt to write code are literally removing the only part of programming that is actually useful.

It's hard to debug code that you yourself wrote. It's harder to debug code that someone else wrote. Now they're trying to make people debug code that *nobody* wrote, that no understanding went into, that you can't ask someone what they were thinking when they wrote it.

With a little over four hours to go for those voting in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election, Zia Yusuf has resigned as Chair of Reform UK because he does not consider trying to get it into government to be a good use of his time. #ScotPol #UKpol
