I just moved back to Aus after spending 6 years in the US and I'm impressed at how quickly the sentiment turned after I was certain we were about to fuck it up (waste $4.3tn on nuclear?)
australia is fun because they have instant runoff voting which allows two separate and distinct conservative parties to run against each other in some districts but still exist in a permanent coalition, except in one state where they merged in 2008 for some reason
also the bigger conservative party is called "the liberal party," although i've been told that australians generally use "liberal" the way most non-online americans do outside the context of talking about this particular party, i.e., "the labor party is more liberal than the liberal party"
